Job description

Conexess Group is aiding a large healthcare client in their search for a Data Center Technician. This is a long-term contract opportunity with a competitive compensation package.

** This is an onsite position in Elk Grove Village, IL**
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Data Center Technician / Engineer to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of physical server, network, and storage infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will have experience with data center operations, hardware installation, cabling, LAN/SAN environments, break/fix support, and vendor coordination.
Responsibilities
  • Rack, install, cable, test, and maintain physical server, network, telecommunications, and storage equipment.
  • Perform hardware replacement, break/fix, RMA, maintenance, and decommissioning activities.
  • Install, route, label, troubleshoot, and maintain Ethernet, fiber, and copper cabling according to data center standards.
  • Troubleshoot physical infrastructure, LAN, SAN, connectivity, and hardware issues.
  • Provide Tier II/III hands-on support for server, network, and storage infrastructure.
  • Perform basic OS configuration and connectivity checks before transitioning systems to remote support teams.
  • Support data center projects, deployments, releases, and maintenance activities while following change-control procedures.
  • Submit and manage change requests, problem tickets, and repair activities.
  • Coordinate and provide oversight for vendors and cabling contractors.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory of hardware components, fiber, copper, and jumper cables.
  • Provide onsite “remote hands” support for teams troubleshooting LAN/SAN and equipment issues remotely.
  • Participate in incident response and support high-impact issues in accordance with established SLAs.
  • Coordinate site access and security clearance for visitors and third-party vendors.
  • Document data center activities and infrastructure using DCIM and other required systems.
  • Provide performance updates and recommendations for infrastructure improvements.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in data center operations, infrastructure, network, server, and/or storage support.
  • Experience supporting large enterprise networks and SAN environments; healthcare experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, network protocols, and SAN Fibre Channel.
  • Experience with enterprise networking/vendor equipment such as Cisco, Juniper, F5, and Riverbed preferred.
  • Strong understanding of data center cabling principles.
  • Experience with troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows environments.
  • Basic understanding of Python preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and remote support teams.
  • Ability to learn and use DCIM systems for data center documentation.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Associate degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred, or equivalent education and experience.
