Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the Department of Manufacturing Engineering as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2026. The student assistant will support Dr. Hossein Taheri (PI) and Dr. Marzieh Bahreman (Postdoctoral Research Associate, Co-I) on the SEED-funded project "Multi-Modal Characterization and Data Correlation for Metal Additive Manufacturing Components.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities
  • Assists with hands-on laboratory tasks supporting the nondestructive evaluation (NDE) of additively manufactured samples, including sample handling and preparation for testing
  • Supports ultrasonic testing and surface profilometry measurements, recording and organizing experimental data, and assisting with basic data processing and correlation analysis across NDE modalities
  • Helps maintain lab equipment and workspace organization, follow all lab safety protocols, and assist in preparing summaries or documentation of experimental results for the research team

Shift Specifics
  • Up to 10 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
  • Engineering major

Preferred Experience
  • A background or coursework in mechanical, manufacturing, or a related engineering discipline
  • Basic familiarity with laboratory safety practices and attention to detail in handling and testing materials are required
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to accurately record and manage experimental data are essential
  • Prior exposure to manufacturing processes, materials testing, or data analysis (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, or Python)
  • The student should be reliable, able to follow instructions carefully, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a research team

Proposed Salary
$20.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
