Job description

Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow At CAPS

Georgetown University comprises two unique campuses in the nation's capital. For the last several decades, Georgetown Counseling and Psychiatric Service (CAPS) has had a training program for psychologists in training, both full-time post-internship positions (as requested here and known as Psychology Postdoctoral Fellows, CAPS – Georgetown University) and practicum students who have not yet had an internship (unpaid and part-time). These positions extend the reach of the department clinically and in terms of outreach efforts.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluation of students with psychological distress
  • Crisis intervention
  • Brief counseling
  • Outreach
  • Consultation to deans, parents, faculty, and staff regarding student mental health issues
  • Note: all tasks are done under supervision of licensed CAPS psychologists

Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow at CAPS report directly to the Associate Director for Psychology Training, who operates under the oversight of the CAPS Director. Fellows also receive clinical supervision from fully licensed staff psychologists in order to ensure the provision of high-quality care to students. Their interactions extend beyond CAPS to various departments within the Division of Student Affairs, and they frequently serve as mental health consultants to deans, professors, and parents, reinforcing the department's commitment to fostering student well-being across campus.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Pre-doctoral internship in psychology or a related field
  • Familiarity and skill in one or more of the following areas: diversity and multicultural issues, eating disorders, substance abuse, LGBTQ issues, and sexual assault trauma.

Preferred qualifications:

  • College mental health experience

Pay range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $41,926.00 - $65,090.00. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the university's business needs and external factors.
