Ready to Power a Smarter World with us?
The Staff Engineer, Customer Quality plays a key role in ensuring customer satisfaction within the Commercial and Industrial Business Group. The role utilises Six Sigma methodologies and root cause analysis to identify systemic issues, implement sustainable engineering solutions, and drive continuous product and process improvement.
Responsibilities
  • Lead complex root cause investigations on product quality issues, working cross-functionally with quality, service, production, and design engineering teams
  • Design, develop, execute, and evaluate advanced diagnostic approaches to identify and define root causes of field and product issues
  • Implement corrective actions to resolve existing issues and prevent recurrence across current and future product designs
  • Drive and participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance product reliability, reduce field failures, and improve customer satisfaction
  • Support the Industrial Service team in resolving escalated customer issues requiring deep technical expertise
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering and Manufacturing to incorporate field feedback and lessons learned into new product development and production processes
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA) to ensure consistent and effective resolution of engineering issues
  • Travel as needed to Generac facilities and customer sites to support investigation and resolution efforts
  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, acting as a technical resource and contributing to team capability development
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional project teams, ensuring alignment and successful execution across stakeholders
  • Contribute to engineering standards, procedures, and best practices while driving improvements in engineering impact on business performance

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in new product design and development, including machine design and knowledge of generator controls, tuning, and liquid-cooled engine systems
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities with demonstrated ability to resolve complex engineering issues using structured methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys, FMEA)
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally in a matrixed organisation and lead or contribute to project teams
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with high accuracy, strong attention to detail, and effective prioritisation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
  • Proficiency with engineering tools and systems, including FEA/diagnostic tools, 3D modelling (ProE/SolidWorks), MS Office, and ERP systems (e.g., SAP)
  • Experience with electrical system diagnostics, including use of tools such as oscilloscopes
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently, apply engineering knowledge to improve products/processes, and understand broader business and financial impact

Great Reasons to work for Generac
  • Competitive Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, 401k and many more
  • State-of-the-art facility with an onsite gym, walking trails, caf, free parking and many employee activities
  • Scheduled events throughout the year that allow our employees, both current and retirees, to gather together and enjoy their time with their families and co-workers
  • Pride! When a storm strikes, Generac employees always rise to the occasion. Each time a storm hits, many employees volunteer their time with the customer support team or on the production line, while others go right into storm-affected areas to repair generators
  • Make a positive impact. Generac has always been community-minded and dedicated to giving back. The company proudly offers a Volunteer Time Off program, inviting team members to participate in charitable volunteer opportunities on company time.
  • We believe in having fun. From minor celebrations to major events, our employees balance their work by building a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration through a variety of occasions, including our Fun Days.
