DURATION: 8+ month contract, high chance of extension
RATE RANGE: Pay rate: Market rate, target $115-155/hr

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sr. Technical Architect is a deeply technical, hands-on role within Fluidstack's Design and Engineering team, focused on the specifications, FM Global compliance, and construction detailing that hold Fluidstack's data center campuses to the highest standard of durability and risk performance.
We're looking for a licensed Architect who can personally write and review specifications, ensure designs meet FM Global loss-prevention standards, and produce or review construction-level detail drawings that hold up under real-world scrutiny, from envelope assemblies and roofing systems to waterproofing terminations and building envelope penetrations.
You will work closely with Structural, Civil, and Construction teams to make sure that what gets built matches design intent exactly, and that every detail is engineered to avoid the failure modes that FM Global's standards exist to prevent.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specifications

  • Author and maintain detailed technical specifications (CSI MasterFormat style) covering building envelope, roofing, fire-rating, finishes, and architectural systems across Fluidstack's data center portfolio.
  • Review specifications prepared by external architects and consultants for technical accuracy, completeness, and consistency with Fluidstack's master specification standards.
  • Translate performance requirements into precise, buildable specification language covering materials, installation methods, quality standards, and testing/inspection requirements.
FM Global Compliance
  • Ensure all architectural and envelope designs meet or exceed FM Global Data Sheet requirements for loss prevention, including roofing/wind uplift resistance, fire protection, and equipment protection.
  • Lead or support FM Global submission and review processes, resolving technical comments and ensuring designs achieve FM Global approval.
  • Serve as the go-to technical resource for FM Global standards across the design team, advising architects, structural engineers, and consultants on compliance requirements.
  • Stay current on evolving FM Global standards and communicate impacts to ongoing and future projects.
Construction Detailing
  • Produce and/or review construction-level detail drawings for critical envelope elements: roof-to-wall transitions, waterproofing membrane terminations, cladding/curtainwall details, and building envelope penetrations.
  • Ensure details resolve real constructability issues before they reach the field - catching conflicts between design intent and buildable reality.
  • Support field teams during construction with detail clarifications, RFI resolution, and on-the-fly detailing adjustments as field conditions require.
Cross-Discipline Technical Coordination
  • Partner with Structural, Civil, and Construction teams to ensure specifications and details are coordinated and conflict-free across disciplines.
  • Support due-diligence and design review processes with a technical, detail-oriented lens focused on constructability and code/standards compliance.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior architects and designers on specification writing, FM Global standards, and detailing best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.Arch or M.Arch from an accredited program.
  • Active Registered Architect (RA) license in good standing in at least one US state; NCARB certification strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in technical specification writing, code compliance, and construction detailing for large-scale, mission-critical, or industrial facilities.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with FM Global Data Sheets and FM Global submission/approval processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise producing and reviewing construction detail drawings - building envelope, roofing, cladding, and waterproofing systems.
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong working knowledge of IBC, NFPA, ADA, and related architectural code and standards requirements.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across the US (estimated 20%).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in hyperscale data center, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial facility design.
  • Track record of successfully shepherding designs through FM Global review on multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with industrial cladding and roofing systems: attachment details, thermal movement, joint continuity, and air/vapor barrier integration.
  • Experience mentoring junior architects and designers on technical specification and detailing standards.
  • LEED AP or demonstrated experience with lifecycle-carbon or sustainable envelope strategies.

BENEFITS SUMMARY: Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate or annual salary only, unless otherwise stated. In addition to base compensation, full-time roles are eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Commuter and 401K benefits with company matching.
