Performs specialized field and office work in fire prevention with responsibility for enforcement of fire safety codes, laws, and ordinances and includes inspection of commercial buildings to ensure compliance. Initiative and judgment must be exercised to recognize fire hazards and acquire code compliance. Field work exposes employee to varying weather conditions, chemicals, noxious fumes, insects, heights, and confined areas. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines, and is reviewed through daily conferences.
Minimum Qualifications:
Fire Prevention Inspector I - C: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with six (6) months experience in fire inspection, fire prevention or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess and maintain State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification from the Division of State Fire Marshal and a valid Florida Driver's License. Must pass a background check which includes a polygraph.
Fire Prevention Inspector II - C: High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate with two (2) years experience in fire inspection, fire prevention; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience. This is a full-time CONTRACT position with the same benefits as Regular full-time. Most contracts are renewable for terms of one year.
