Responsibilities
An Average Day:As the System Administrator (Systems) III you will lead the support for various operating systems, including VMware, Storage, and appliance-based systems, while taking on a significant responsibility for backup and restore support, security, antivirus technologies, and application support. Execute change management procedures, troubleshoot complex computer hardware issues, and assess new server hardware and software requirements. Ensuring up-to-date patch levels and conducting compliance audits on supported systems will be among your duties, alongside supporting Cyber Security Specialists during incident response activities. You will also play a pivotal role in assisting end-users during escalated incidents and coordinating with vendors to upgrade and patch hardware and software for responsible platforms. Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Lead operating system installation, configuration, monitoring, and support for VMware, Storage, and appliance-based systems.
  • Provide expert-level end-user support for all systems during core hours and rotational on-call support after core hours and on weekends.
  • Spearhead change management procedures for both hardware and software, collaborating closely with the Change Advisory Board (CAB) as necessary.
  • Oversee troubleshooting and/or coordination of computer hardware repairs with vendors, resolving complex issues efficiently.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of new server hardware and software requirements, proposing changes/upgrades, and devising and testing deployment strategies.
  • Take charge of hardening servers to comply with established security baselines, maintaining patch levels, and providing expert support to Cyber Security Specialists during incident responses.
  • Manage maintenance tasks and maintain meticulous inventory records of all servers and server-related equipment and software.
  • Develop and uphold standard procedures for routine and recurring activities, ensuring efficiency and consistency.
  • Lead backup and restore support efforts, overseeing the health of the backup environment, including annual restore tests, and managing communication/troubleshooting for failed backups, including database backup and restore.

Qualifications
  • As a requirement of this position, all candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. In accordance with 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(2)(C), we will not consider candidates for this position who do not meet the aforementioned conditions.
  • Must be able to pass federal background investigation and obtain a Public Trust
  • Extensive experience in a multi-platform computer center environment.
  • Proficiency with VCenter, SAN Management, and iLO/iDRAC.
  • Ability to quickly acquire, comprehend, and apply knowledge from technical manuals and SOPs.
  • Demonstrated expertise with a range of tools, technologies, hardware, and systems, including but not limited to:
    • VXRail, vSAN, Windows, Red Hat Linux, VMware, Microsoft Azure, HPE servers, preferred monitoring tools (Splunk or SolarWinds Orion), DataDomain backup appliances, Veritas NetBackup, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Ping Identity, Corestreet HID appliances and OCSP authentication support, RSA SecurID, Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), Microsoft Certificate Server, Microsoft Key Management Server (KMS).
  • Proficient knowledge of LDAP, DHCP, DNS.
  • Proficiency in Perl, PowerShell, Windows scripting, and standard shell scripts.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills, coupled with strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Must be able to:
    • Lift up to 25 lbs.
    • Bend, stretch, squat, kneel, to move equipment, set up workstations (projectors, TV screens, computers, servers, routers, printers, tools, etc.).
  • Must be able to present acceptable identification for customer badging and site access, such as a REAL ID compliant driver license, U.S. Passport, or other approved document from the GSA Required Identification List.

Pay Transparency Statement
AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $80,973.00/Yr. - USD $166,321.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
