English Language Learner Coach

Academic Services Team / Special Programs

Position overview

The emergent bilingual (EB) / English Learner (EL) coach in collaboration with the Florida Academic Services team will overseetheir regional portfolio of schools in ensuring that they are providing high quality instruction for their EB/EL students and compliance support by coaching teachers and leaders duringgeneralclassroomsupport, conducting side by side observations/walkthroughs of instructional environments, providing professional development opportunities for staff, data analysis, lesson plan feedback, and ensuring campuses maintain 100% EB/EL compliance with all state and federal requirements. (This position is partially grant funded, position requires daily accounting/monthly tracking of daily activities). This role reports to the Florida VP of Schools and had no direct reports.

Location:This is a full-time hybrid position based in [Region] with preference given to candidates who live in the region or who are willing to relocate.

Travel Expectation:Regular travel to campuses required (up to 40% of the time during the busiest parts of the year). Travel between regions for step backs up to four times a year.

Compensation & Benefits

Salaries for people entering this role typically start between $66,000 and $80,000, commensurate with relevant qualifications and experience. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.

Required Skills

  • Design and assist with delivering professional development for regional and campus teams around Emergent Bilingual/English Learner support (Program Training, SIOP, etc.)
  • Deliver exceptional professional development around EB/EL program which directly impact effective systems and increase leader and teacher capacity to transform and increase student academic achievement.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with regional team members, campus leaders, and classroom teachers the pressing EB/EL priorities and preferred programming. Hold consistent Business Partnerships with regional and campus leaders.
  • Coach and develop campus leaders using the Leader Competencies and ensure the coaching cycle is followed with fidelity from campus leaders to classroom teachers and ensure observations are detailed in Teach Boost
  • Complete Time & Effort for position funding appropriation as may be required

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides support and assistance to classroom teachers and campus leaders in the full and skillful implementation of integrated and designated English Language Development (ELD).
  • Conducts classroom observations, specific to language development and provides coaching support for all teachers and leaders with clear next steps and follow-up process.
  • Provides on-site staff development to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about data-driven learning and effective instructional strategies related to English Language Development (ELD).
  • Supports teachers and leaders in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the content and learning strategies embedded into established curriculum/curricula.
  • Conducts demonstration and model lessons in classroom to ensure that all teachers and leaders have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using instructional materials as designed, specific to integrated and designated ELD.
  • Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students including English Learners, students enrolled in Special Education Programs, and students with diverse learning needs.
  • Participates in collaborative regional (and as may be needed, campus) level meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve English learner student achievement.
  • Meets regularly with the regional leaders and campus principals/lead teams to review District/site-required assessment English learner data and to assess the outcomes of EL achievement goals.
  • Supports campus English Learner point people in the identification and reclassification process of emergent bilingual students.
  • Ensures 100% of required EB documents are obtained and maintained at the campus level using Ellevation
  • Supports campuses with assessments

EB/EL instructional aligned and prioritized tasks (PD prep, update trackers, follow up on campus/leader next steps, calendar work time)

Required experience

  • Bilingual or ESOL Certification Required
  • Bachelor's degree required (Masters or post baccalaureate studies preferred)
  • 1-3 years of experience teaching EB/EL students
  • Technology proficient
  • 3+ years of total teaching experience preferred

Individual goals

  • 50%ofEB/ELstudentsachieveproficiency or grow 1+ year academically
  • 75% of schools meet the EB/EL growth targets
  • 75% of regional portfolio of schools have at least 80% of teachers complete a minimum of 2 SIOP training sessions, focused on different SIOP components.
  • 100% of regional portfolio of schools BOY, MOY, & EOY EB/EL meetings are completed by deadline.
  • 95% of required EL student documents (original home language survey, original parent permission letter, and original language proficiency tests) are obtained by campus and uploaded to Ellevation.
