Job description

Overview

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Senior Linux System Administrator to support a major national laboratory. 

The Computational Systems Engineering Department is a capability based organization that architects, develops, integrates, tests, and deploys large highly reliable mission critical systems using agile methodologies. We have expertise in R&D and Information Technology across many disciplines including large-scale software engineering, computer science, and computer engineering. Our specific capabilities include platform automation, computer hardware/software architectures, system administration/networking, cyber security, failover/redundancy, continuous integration, system integration/verification, and performance assessment. We leverage these capabilities to innovate high-rigor solutions while supporting existing critical customer needs. Our current responsibility includes support for nonproliferation and national security missions for the US Nuclear Detonation Detection System.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but not limited to on any given day:

  • Research and prototype solutions based on HW//SW requirements, fit, and feasibility.
  • Architect solutions and systems to meet operational and development needs.
  • Implement automated solutions that are repeatable, reliable, and scalable.
  • Install hardware and configure various components of an overall system delivery.
  • Work in a teaming environment to promote innovative ideas and foster continuous improvement.
  • Think with an enterprise approach to ensure a complete product is delivered.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, relevant computer field, or equivalent education and relevant experience 2 years
  • United States Citizenship is required
  • Active DOE Q Clearance on Start or DOD Top Secret equivalent, Reciprocity with ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Clearance
  • This position is on-site full time

Required Skills:

  • Two (2) years of experience with programming languages and systems such as Ansible, Python, Bash
  • Two (2) years of experience with Linux System Administration
  • Experience in architecting complete computer solutions, system design, engineering, and system development, including familiarity with modern DevOps practices and tools
  • Experience with hardware and operating systems, including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client-server principles

Desired Skills:

  • Master's degree in relevant field of computer science or software/engineering
  • Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt, or similar automation languages
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Proficiency with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, OpenShift, Docker)
  • Possess a strong dedication to positive teaming dynamic, strong written and verbal skills, detail oriented with a keen focus on customer service
