Job description

We are seeking a reliable, hardworking Silt Fence Installer to join our Environmental Services team in Sarasota FL. We have multiple jobs and you may travel from Manatee to Charlotte County. You will play a vital role in protecting Florida’s local waterways and ecosystems by installing and maintaining sediment and erosion control measures (Best Management Practices/BMPs) on active construction sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Preparation: Mark fence paths and clear vegetation, rocks, or debris.
  • Trenching & Installation: Use hand tools (shovels, picks) and machinery (trenchers, mini-excavators) to dig 6-8 inch trenches perpendicular to slopes.
  • Fabric & Post Assembly: Place geotextile fabric into trenches, fold and compact to specification, and drive wooden or steel stakes on the downhill side.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Inspect, repair, and replace damaged silt fence structures to ensure compliance with local regulations and SWPPP (Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan).
  • Storm Drain Maintenance: Regularly inspect and manually clear debris from community storm drains and inlet protections.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all OSHA safety standards, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and properly load/unload materials.
  • Qualifications

  • Experience: [1+] year(s) of general construction, landscaping, or erosion control experience preferred, but on-the-job training is provided for the right candidate.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy manual labor and stand for prolonged periods in various outdoor Florida weather conditions.
  • Lifting Requirement: Capable of safely lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to the job site.
  • Work Ethic: Strong teamwork skills, punctuality, and the ability to take direction from Crew Leaders and Foremen.
