Job description

Community Support Services, Inc. (CSS) is a non-profit organization based in Gaithersburg, MD. CSS is committed to providing inclusive and innovative community-based services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in their pursuit of individually chosen life goals to live, work, learn, interact with others, and recreate in their community.

Custodial Technician is a member of the Facilities team responsible for 2 commercial buildings and over 70 residential group homes for Community Support Services, a non-profit charitable organization which provides services and support to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. Duties include custodial janitorial work, maintaining facilities and grounds, implementing preventative maintenance schedules, and assisting with repairs and renovations.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Cleaning, vacuuming, mopping and/or disinfecting floors, surfaces, furnishings, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, stairways, exteriors, and other areas of residential and commercial properties.

Restocking supplies and disposing of trash and/or recyclable materials as required.

Administrative support by delivering packages and supplies to office staff or designated storage locations..

Move furniture, equipment and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.

Minor plumbing maintenance and clearing toilets of clogs.

Minor electrical maintenance, replacing of light bulbs, batteries, as required.

Assure that all equipment, including power and manual devices, remains in good working order.

Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as unlocking doors in the morning or locking after operating hours.

Document and report needed repairs as noted.

Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.

Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals.

Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.

Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.

Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation.

Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery, using mowers and hand and power trimmers, and clear debris from grounds.

Maintain a positive and professional attitude.

Other duties as assigned.
