National Bank of Commerce is a community bank committed to providing exceptional service and building strong, lasting relationships with our customers. We are looking for a highly motivated and results-driven Mortgage Banker to join our team in Baxter, MN. The ideal candidate is a self-starter passionate about helping people achieve homeownership goals and contributing to the bank's growth.
The Mortgage Banker is responsible for originating a high volume of residential mortgage loans by developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, realtors, builders, and other referral sources. This role requires an in-depth knowledge of mortgage products, a commitment to exceptional customer service, and the ability to guide borrowers through the entire loan process from application to closing. This position primarily deals with direct, single-family loans, but the Banker should also be versed in other bank products such as home equity loans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loan Origination & Business Development: Actively seek out and develop new mortgage lending opportunities. This includes spending significant time on community involvement and outside sales activities.
  • Referral Networking: Build and maintain a referral network with real estate professionals, financial planners, and other industry contacts.
  • Client Management: Interview loan applicants to determine their financial needs and objectives. Analyze financial data, credit reports, and other information to recommend the most suitable loan products.
  • Customer Service: Act as the primary point of contact for borrowers, ensuring they are informed and supported throughout the loan process. Address any questions or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the underwriting and processing teams to ensure a smooth and efficient loan process.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Gather and review all necessary documentation to ensure loan files are complete and compliant with federal regulations and bank policies. Ensure compliance with all bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Requires National Mortgage Licensing Systems (NMLS) registration under the S.A.F.E. Act.
  • Broad knowledge of real estate lending techniques and practices.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in mortgage origination is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage loan products, including conventional, FHA, VA, and construction loans.
  • Strong communication, sales, and negotiation skills.
  • A proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
  • The ability to work independently and manage a pipeline efficiently.
  • Patience, tact, and professionalism in dealing with customers, co-workers, and business contacts.

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an associate’s degree in business or a combination of experience and education.
  • Existing network of professional referral sources in the local market.
  • Familiarity with loan policies, credit culture, and NBC’s products and services.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 to $45.00 per hour, contingent on relevant skills, training, experience, education and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation.
