Job description

Description Under direct supervision, to perform routine shelving and standardized library physical tasks within established guidelines. All current Library Page positions are Part-Time, 20 hours/week. This recruitment is for future Library Page vacancies.

The eligible list established will be used to fill vacancies as they occur. NOTE: Candidates who meet the employment standards will be invited to take an online examination, tentatively scheduled for the week of September 7, 2026. Typical Tasks Sorts, shelves, shifts, and ensures library materials are correctly arranged following established procedures; Searches shelves for various library materials; Performs light clean-up within library, such as picking up litter and emptying waste receptacles; performs light maintenance on library equipment; and restocks public office and restroom supplies; Empties book drop and assists with electronically checking-in and resetting computer codes on library items; Packs, unpacks, and distributes library shipments and newspapers; uses automated materials handling system to process shipments and returned items; Labels, tapes, and stamps library materials; Uses copy machine to copy and collate; Assists in opening and closing procedures; Participates in meetings and safety trainings and follows library rules/guidelines; Assists in setting up community rooms for programs; Assists patrons in loading and unloading library materials and donations to and from vehicles; Assists patrons with basic questions related to materials, equipment, and services and refers patrons to appropriate staff for more extensive questions or service needs; May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required; May perform other related duties, as required.

Employment Standards Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities: Training and Experience Note: The required knowledge and abilities are attained through training and experience equivalent to the completion of eighth grade. Knowledge of: Alphabetical and numerical filing systems, such as the Dewey Decimal Classification System, to locate and organize materials; Basic computer use. Ability to: Follow simple oral and written instructions in the English language; Learn routine library procedures, including operating library equipment such as computers; Communicate effectively; Work quickly and accurately with numbers and letters; Multi-task and prioritize assignments; Demonstrate attention to detail; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Physical Requirements Lift and carry up to 30 pounds; Perform physically demanding work; stoop, bend, push, and stand for long periods of time. Willingness to work nights and weekends, as required.
