Department Statement
Colgate provides a free shuttle service around Hamilton and the university campus, open to students and the public.
Accountabilities
Colgate University is seeking part-time shuttle bus drivers to join our Transportation team. We seek dependable, friendly individuals to help safely transport passengers throughout the campus and the Village of Hamilton. These positions offer flexible shifts, including daytime, evening, overnight, weekend, and event coverage.
Responsibilities:
  • Operate a shuttle, bus, or van safely and courteously to transport passengers around campus and the Village of Hamilton.
  • Follow all University policies and procedures while operating vehicles.
  • Conduct required vehicle inspections per department and DOT standards.
  • Operate vehicle communication systems in compliance with University guidelines.
  • Perform daily cleaning and fueling of vehicles.
  • Maintain scheduled routes and report any delays or changes immediately to the supervisor.
  • Record and report incidents, accidents, or mechanical issues according to established procedures.
  • Provide shuttle service information to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Attend all required training sessions and meetings per University, federal, and state requirements.
  • Maintain CDL and all necessary certifications and endorsements, including timely physicals and recertification's.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Professional Experience/ Qualifications
  • Possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) C, B or A in good standing with Passenger endorsements.
  • Meet 19-A qualifications.
  • Pass a DOT physical examination.
  • Have at least three years of driving experience.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize two-way radio communications.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Compliance with all federal and state regulations regarding commercial vehicle operations.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry tools or equipment above shoulder level without assistance.
  • Move up and down stairs easily.
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, with the ability to bend, twist, pull, and stoop.

  • Pre-employment and continued random drug screenings are required.
  • Maintain up to date recertification requirements.
