Outdoor Pursuits Lifeguard/Attendant

The Outdoor Pursuits Lifeguard/Attendant provides an instrumental role in delivering the Cliffs experience to all incoming Members, Guests of Members, and Discovery Guests at the Keowee Springs Beach Club and Surf Shop. This position carries out the daily operational duties in an effective, safe, and considerate manner in order to maintain the warm and welcoming environment that is standard across the Cliffs communities. The Outdoor Pursuits Lifeguard/Attendant will provide a multi-dimensional role, rotating through responsibilities in lifeguard supervision of pool attendees, pool maintenance, Surf Shop operations, and Beach Club operations. The Outdoor Pursuits team will operate within structured processes to achieve an elevated Member experience, with a cohesive approach toward team goals and objectives. Success in this position will be measured in the consistency of lifeguarding duties, facility presentation, timely and thorough execution of outdoor experiences, and provision of the highest level of safety for operational success.

Job Duties
  • Maintain constant surveillance and attentiveness to pools, slides and surrounding areas
  • Provide emergency care and treatment in the event of an emergency until EMS arrive
  • Greet all members in a timely and personable manner
  • Provide courteous, prompt, and sincere attention to members, guests, and staff
  • Maintain appropriate relationships with members, guests, and staff
  • Validate member or guest status and ensure waiver is current
  • Validate member or guest status and provide wrist bands for appropriate access
  • Execute facility opening, in-shift, and closing procedures to completion in an efficient manner
  • Assist with general facility organizational standards
  • Maintain appearance and cleanliness of bathrooms and towels
  • Assist with providing outdoor pursuits schedule information to members, guests, and associates
  • Assist members in registration for outdoor exploration events
  • Assist in boat rental process and demonstrate safe boating procedures
  • Help fuel, clean, cover, uncover, prep and maintain all watercraft and boats
  • Help to sell and market all outdoor pursuits activities
  • Demonstrate proper usage of all equipment with a well-informed, invested approach
  • Brief all participants on safety standards during each visit to the Surf Shop
  • Provide certified lifeguard supervision of the Beach Club slide pool, consistently enforcing all safety rules and regulations in a polite manner
  • Test chemical levels of both onsite pools daily, record measurements in log book provided, and immediately notify management of any imbalances that exceed safe and appropriate standards
  • Attend to Member accidents in a comforting manner, coordinating emergency services if the situation requires, and submitting proper documentation following the incident
  • Maintain appearance of Beach Club, Surf Shop, and beach – to include raking, picking up debris and trash, leaf blowing, towel folding and resupply, and arranging furniture
  • File waivers alphabetically by the end of each shift
  • Maintain personal appearance, to include appropriate clothing and shoes for the shift
  • Assist in administrative tasks pertaining to the Surf Shop and Beach Club operations
  • Lead, plan, and/or deliver outdoor programs to include kayak and paddleboard tours, hikes, instructional classes, and private events
  • Maintain a positive attitude and work ethic
  • Look for needs during slower hours; predict and be proactive about what is needed during busy hours
  • Be prepared to give hands-on instruction of appropriate kayak and paddleboard techniques, if required
  • Rotate between Surf Shop, beach and dock areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Uphold the standards, procedures, and Cliffs core values in the presence and absence of supervision
  • Continually build knowledge of flora, fauna, regional history, and other information pertinent to exploration events
  • Be willing to work most weekends and holidays
Background/Experience
  • First-Aid/CPR/AED certification required
  • Lifeguard certification required
  • Boating license/experience preferred
  • Wilderness First-Aid certification preferred
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to problem solve to ensure member satisfaction
  • Must be willing to learn new skills
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand throughout a work day
  • Must sufficiently perform duties through periods of prolonged sun exposure and high temperatures
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds for moderate distances
  • Must be flexible in schedule availability
