Job Summary

Serves as single-point-of-contact for customer distribution projects, which includes the customer account relationship, coordinate projects from inception to completion and distribution system development, reliability, and maintenance.  Analyzes, designs, and prepares structural and electrical specifications and work orders.  Aligns resources to meet customer service commitments and leads teams to address customer needs.  These activities require consideration of cost effectiveness, future growth, safety and other code requirements, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborates with multiple departments, customers, municipalities, outside consulting firms, and other utilities to gather information required to execute projects accurately and in a timely manner. 
  • Develops and maintains business partnerships with elected officials and employees of city, county, and state entities to effectively service customers.  
  • Supports community and civic organizations through active participation.  Assists with project coordination and fund-raising events. 
  • Demonstrate project coordination skills for distribution capital and maintenance programs for CenterPoint Energy.
  • Gathers project information, prepares estimates, analyzes data and designs electrical and street light distribution facilities. 
  • Represents the company in service extension negotiations related to service locations.
  • Ensures customer obligations are met, negotiates and secures payment of projects, researches easement rights, and maintains completion of construction within specified timeframes. 
  • Identifies, evaluates, and if necessary, corrects pre-existing issues related to compliance with governmental regulations, code violations, and CenterPoint Energy standards.  Corrective action may require negotiation with customers related to safety, cost, and legal responsibility.
  • Review facilities for compliance with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), state, city and county governmental ordinances and CenterPoint Energy standards.  Must have the ability to gain working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC). 
  • Performs field inspections as needed for final project approval, foreign cable attachments, customer installed facilities, and miscellaneous customer requests.
  • Participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan (EOP). This may require extended work hours conducting facility inspections, in the field interactions with customers and other duties to support service restoration.
     
Education Description
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. 
    • Will consider relevant job-related CenterPoint Energy or industry-related experience in lieu of degree.
Experience

Two (2) years' prior work experience preferred. Prior work experience for an electric utility company, and/or exposure to project coordination for an electric utility designing overhead and underground electrical distribution systems will be considered first.

Physical Requirements
  • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
  • Able to work a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to meet changing demands.
Working Conditions
  • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work regular hours, with occasional or mandatory overtime; may be required to work rotating shifts.
  • Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily or for extended time periods, in a safe manner.
