Job description

Position Purpose

To provide strategic and operational leadership for all mortgage production activities at Capital Credit Union. This role is accountable for mortgage growth, sales execution, pipeline performance, and market expansion while delivering an exceptional member experience and ensuring full regulatory compliance.

This position exists to own mortgage production results, clearly separating sales leadership from fulfillment and operations, and to build a high performing, accountable origination culture aligned with Capital Credit Union’s mission of Doing the Right Thing. 

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Develop and execute the mortgage origination strategy in alignment with Capital Credit Union’s organizational goals.
  • Drive sustainable loan growth across purchase, refinance, portfolio, and secondary market channels.
  • Identify and implement new products, delivery channels, and market opportunities to increase share and profitability.
  • Partner with executive leadership on long range planning, budgeting, and performance forecasting.
  • Lead all mortgage lenders and lending supervisors with direct accountability for production, conversion, and pipeline health.
  • Establish clear production expectations, scorecards, and performance metrics for lenders and leaders.
  • Oversee referral strategies with branches, business partners, realtors, and community organizations.
  • Ensure consistent, high quality member experiences throughout the origination process.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high performing mortgage sales talent.
  • Coach leaders and lenders to improve productivity, professionalism, consultative selling skills, and conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ethical lending, collaboration, and member first decision making.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development within the mortgage sales organization.
  • Work closely with the VP of Mortgage Operations to ensure strong alignment between sales, underwriting, processing, and closing.
  • Collaborate on workflow design, service level expectations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proactively identify and resolve pipeline bottlenecks impacting member experience or production results.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, investor, and credit union regulations, including SAFE Act, HMDA, RESPA, TILA, and investor guidelines. 
  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Quality Control teams to mitigate risk and successfully pass audits and exams.

Necessary Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8+ years of progressive mortgage lending experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading mortgage sales teams and driving production growth.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage regulations, secondary market guidelines, and lending best practices.
  • Active or ability to obtain and maintain SAFE Act / NMLS registration as required.
  • Proven track record of building scalable sales organizations and improving lender productivity.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and financial acumen.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship building skills.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Office environment with desk assignment.  
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for frequent travel to other branch locations.
  • Minimal lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent use of telephone, copier, computer and fax machine.
  • Prolonged sitting and frequent mental and visual concentration.

NOTE: This job has the potential to work from home contingent upon supervisor approval.  Approval will be based on the Work From Home Policy eligibility requirements, the ability to perform from home at a high level, as well as the department needs in terms of having their supervisor physically present in the office.
