JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Product Retention Marketing (Email) Brand Designer on our Brand Creative team, you’ll design outstanding, mobile-forward email communications that are human, magical, supportive, and forward-thinking. Working closely with our Retention Marketing team, you’ll create compelling marketing, lifecycle, and transactional emails for both domestic and international markets — communications that enhance our global brand identity and support our community of buyers and sellers worldwide.

We are seeking a Brand Designer with deep email design expertise who is enthusiastic about digital design and motion graphics, comfortable following creative direction, and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. You set the bar for design high; you have an exceptional eye for type and color; and you engage, encourage, and elevate fellow designers’ work with thoughtful critique. You develop a deep understanding of our customers and how Etsy fits into their lives, and you’re capable of working on multiple projects at once, quickly and efficiently.

Brand designers enlist their talent and craft to bring Etsy’s unique positioning to life anywhere a customer meets us — and email is one of the most personal places we do it. On the Brand team, you’ll help our marketing and product teams build branded email experiences that consider the entire journey across web, email, and native products. You’ll make decisions informed by research, brand positioning, data insights, and business objectives. Day to day, you’ll collaborate with partners across Etsy to bring retention campaigns to life — making sure every last design detail is built for launch across email clients.

This is a freelance, contract engagement reporting to the Senior Design Manager. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?

• Work with Growth and Retention Marketing teams to concept creative email campaigns that communicate complex topics simply and intuitively.
• Design and maintain branded, scalable visual systems and assets for mobile-forward marketing, lifecycle, and transactional emails, built to render beautifully across email clients, devices, and international markets.
• Partner with other subject areas, including Content Design and Product Design, to align on solutions that innovate and delight customers.
• Resolve ambiguity to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment, often under tight deadlines.
• See projects through the entire design process: from creative concept through iteration of mockups, prototypes, and final production files built for launch.
• Uphold the consistency, quality, and voice of the Etsy brand across retention surfaces by sharing progress regularly and giving thoughtful critique in weekly reviews.
• Understand how email and branded moments fit into a holistic customer journey across web, email, and native products.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 3–5+ years of experience in advertising and design at agencies, studios, or in-house, with a strong focus on email design.
• Experience building email design systems that work across email clients, with a passion for modern, mobile-forward design and how a brand expresses itself in these moments.
• Working knowledge of web design, app design, and digital product design principles
• Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma
• Experienced in core design fundamentals including typography, composition, color theory, and brand guidelines
• Experienced in motion graphics and animation as part of the creative process
• Exercise proactive communication with partners and team members
• Great attention to detail and consistency
• Exercise stellar time-management skills
