Job description

On-Site in Bozeman, Montana

Position Summary:

The Clinical Informaticist is a specialized role responsible for optimizing the use of the Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system across all clinical departments. This role is critical for enhancing the overall patient, clinician, and provider experience by optimizing and implementing lean and logical processes into the EMR workflow. The Clinical Informaticist serves as a liaison between IT, physicians, Nursing, and other departments, ensuring that the clinical systems meet the clinical objectives, quality assurance and federal requirements. The clinical informaticist reports to the Medical Information Officer (MIO).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, health informatics, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Three (3) years of clinical experience
  • One (1) year of experience with Epic EMR
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Nursing Informatics or related field
  • Preferred: Epic Certification(s)
  • Preferred: Experience working in a clinical informatics environment
  • Preferred: Experience in a leadership or managerial role
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies
  • Preferred: Experience with visual data analytics tools i.e. Tableau or Power BI

Essential Job Functions:

  • Clinician Engagement: Works as the go-to translator for physicians and clinical staff and IT/Epic EMR. Round, present and communicate with our clinical teams on Epic Ascent topics and needs. Identifies and recruits potential champions and workgroup members.
  • Workflow Design and Optimization: Facilitate EHR workflow design and optimization based on end user communication combined with EHR usage data analysis. Participates in projects aimed at improving patient care through technology.
  • User Training and Support: Support, develop and deliver Bozeman Health-specific training materials to supplement Epic-led End User Training (ELEUT) providing ongoing education, training and support.
  • System and Content Build: Perform limited build of EHR content and functionality and assist the project team with complex content build and modification.
  • Policy and Procedure Development: Create, update and guide the organization on policies and procedures related to the use of the Epic EHR.
  • Data Analysis: provide insight and guidance to building, implement and promote Radar dashboards, Reporting Workbench reports, SlicerDicer use cases, and other analytics tools.
  • Governance: Serves as the subject matter expert to workgroups, Advisory Councils, and the EHR Steering Committee. Clinical Informaticists may join or present to other organizational committees as requested.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all system updates and changes meet quality and regulatory standards, including DNV accreditation, HIPAA, and the Quality Payment Program.
  • Change Management: Oversees the implementation of system updates, ensuring excellent communication to changes and minimal disruption to end user productivity.
