Position Overview
The Business Development Representative is responsible for generation of business opportunities related to new blood drive sponsors, reactivating lapsed blood drive sponsor accounts and increasing the frequency of existing accounts. This role supports operational strategies for recruitment and collection goals and supports Account Managers in designated territories. In addition, this position will be responsible for a portfolio of no less than 10 Key Accounts designated for growth opportunity. This position is also responsible for increasing community awareness and participation in the blood donor program.
The Business Development Representative must reflect professionalism and exemplary customer service skills, while promoting the values and mission of The Blood Connection. This position requires skills in working with donor sponsor groups, community groups, and other employees of The Blood Connection involved in these functions.
Essential Functions
  • Secures new or reactivated donor groups for blood drives - minimum expectation is 3 per month
  • Grows portfolio of Key Accounts as designated by Division leadership
  • Adept at territory analysis by using various databases to build prospect list
  • Minimizes late blood drive cancellations and small or inefficient blood drives
  • Assists and meets with Account Managers in territory on a regular basis. Coaches Account Managers in best practices to grow donor participation and blood drive frequency
  • Expert at qualifying prospects, determining whether participation should be as a mobile drive or donor center supporters.
  • Analyzes data and group population to determine proper goal setting for accounts
  • Full utilization of HemaCollect and HemaConnect to fully support Recruitment, Collections, Logistics and Production planning by ensuring all necessary information and data is inputted.
  • Works closely with the Division Management and Production Planning so calendar capacity is fully utilized.
  • Provides superior customer service to blood donors, blood donor groups, internal and external customers.
  • Establishes patronage and relationships with blood drive sponsor groups
  • Educates the community by attending health fairs and community/marketing events and giving presentations to spread the mission of The Blood Connection
  • Organizes meetings with sponsor contacts, committees, and/or employees to educate them and promote blood drives
  • Seeks out supervisory, health/safety meetings, and employee meetings when possible to further educate and encourage attendance at blood drives
  • Attends blood drives as needed
  • Performs site evaluations for new blood drive sponsors to ensure a safe and convenient blood drive set-up as needed
  • Positively promotes The Blood Connection
  • Other duties as assigned or required
  • Responsible for at least 3 new blood drives scheduled per month and management of a portfolio of no less than 10 Key Accounts.
  • Facilitates our mission through proactive scheduling and providing information and logistical support to sponsor groups and individual blood donors
  • Strives for over 100% of assigned booking goal each month
  • Meets with assigned Account Managers on a regular basis
  • Maintains a standard percentage of accuracy defined as targeted goal versus actual units booked (Range of accuracy is between 95% and 110%)
  • Maintains a set Blood Drive Efficiency Ratio (BDER) when scheduling blood drives of 1.8 per blood drive and average a 1.5 monthly ratio
  • Departmentally - Works with all members of the Donor Resources Team to achieve a calendar fill rate of 100% booked for the period covering the next eight weeks
  • Departmentally - Works with all members of the Donor Resources Team to achieve a projection accuracy of 95 - 110% accuracy rate daily, weekly, monthly, and annually
  • Departmentally - Works with all members of the Donor Resources Team to achieve and exceed team goals
  • Increases number of new donation sponsors
  • Embraces and adapts to change

Minimum Qualifications
  • College degree preferred
  • Outside sales and/or marketing experience of 2 years preferred or related experience.
  • Public Speaking-ability to sell The Blood Connection to all groups in the community by carrying our message of community service and the necessity of participation and support
  • Ability to multi-task and be detail oriented.
  • Ability to face rejection and possess the tenacity to follow up respectfully with groups without offending
  • Possess the aptitude for continued skill development
  • Valid Driver's License with no major infractions and dependable transportation
  • Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and courteously to patrons, donors, sponsors and co-workers
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills
  • Strong computer skills necessary including use of online meeting platforms (ZOOM), Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and strong knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Ability to work with all levels and in a diverse work environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, and peers
