The Transfer Station Truck Driver assists in managing waste at the Becker County Transfer Station and Demotion Landfill and operates heavy and light equipment and vehicles.ย
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesย
Material Handling and Equipment Operationย
โขย ย ย Operate semi-truck and walking floor trailers or other trailers used to transfer waste commodities or other materials to disposal sites or locations. ย
โขย ย ย Responsible for analyzing routing to determine the most effective and efficient routing and completing all required load documentation to successfully complete hauling operations.ย
โขย ย ย Complete equipment safety inspections each day, complete light equipment maintenance and coordinate scheduled maintenance as directed by the Transfer Station Manager.ย
โขย ย ย Operate a front-load compactor truck used to collect and haul recyclable waste products and/or other commodities. ย Responsible for analyzing routing to determine the most effective and efficient routing while servicing the county recycling canister sites and developing reports on the commodities collected. ย ย
โขย ย ย Assist the transfer station manager in opening, closing, and the operation of Becker County waste collection facilities, including Inspecting incoming loads of waste materials and directing the proper disposal of the waste. ย Recommend options for the correct disposal of banned materials. ย
โขย ย ย Operate and help maintain all equipment at the facility. ย This includes a semi-truck & trailer, compactor, skid steer loader, rubber-tired pay loader, truck scale, computers, and various hand tools. ย
โขย ย ย Performs general maintenance, repair, and janitorial activities of the transfer station facility building and grounds.ย
โขย ย ย Educates customers on solid waste issues.ย
โขย ย ย Monitors the safety of job sites for benefit of customers and co-workers. ย
โขย ย ย Attends educational opportunities and meetings and maintains required certifications.ย
โขย ย ย Performs other duties as assigned or apparent. ย

Qualifications ย
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. One year of trucking is required before appointment. ย Vocational or twoyear college degree in a related field preferred.ย
Requirements:ย
โขย ย ย Valid Minnesota CDL A Driverโs License.ย
โขย ย ย Some office skills are desired, (must be able to type).ย
โขย ย ย Good math skills and be able to utilize computer programs such as Excel and Word.ย
โขย ย ย Ability to operate equipment used at Becker County landfill, transfer station, or recycling facilities. ย
โขย ย ย Must be capable of wearing protective equipment for extended periods of time, this will include, but not beย limited to, full or one-half face mask respirators, protective coveralls of Tyvek, Saranac, or other materials, gloves of differing compositions for protective reasons, foot and head protection varying with the work situation, face shield, etc.ย
โขย ย ย Must be able to independently make decisions on truck routing, and to be able to work with the public.ย
โขย ย ย Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to safe operation of equipment, tools and industrial settings.ย
โขย ย ย Ability to lift and navigate up to 25 pounds on a routine basis and carry materials weighing up to 100 pounds.ย
โขย ย ย Ability to complete initial program training and adhere to standard operating procedures.ย
โขย ย ย Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence and memos and to write simple correspondence.ย
โขย ย ย The ability to communicate effectively and have strong positive public relations skills.ย
โขย ย ย Ability to apply a variety of procedures, policies and precedents and to adapt standard methods to fit facts, using generally prescribed procedures.ย
Physical Demands and Working Conditionsย
โขย ย ย Work is performed in an office, outdoors, and at the Becker County Solid Waste Campus.ย
โขย ย ย May be exposed to various atmospheric conditions such as odors, dusts, insects, poor ventilation, fumes, inclement weather, etc.ย
โขย ย ย Ability to lift, carry or push up to 100 pounds. ย
โขย ย ย May be exposed to uncooperative, angry or hostile individuals.ย
