Job Summary

The Housing Director provides strategic leadership, oversight, and management of all recovery housing operations at Basecamp Recovery Center. This position is responsible for creating environments where recovery can flourish through structure, compassion, consistency, and excellence across BRC's Franklinton and Whitehall locations.

The Housing Director supervises housing staff, develops policies and procedures, oversees admissions and discharges, manages budgets, coordinates with clinical teams, and works to ensure residents receive high-quality support while maintaining accountability and program integrity. This role requires on-call availability for housing emergencies, behavioral crises, and after-hours situations as assigned. Candidates should be prepared for a schedule that extends beyond standard business hours as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Administration

• Provide leadership for all recovery housing programs and residential services
• Supervise Housing Coordinators, Assistant Housing Coordinators, Resident Managers, and Housing Peer Support staff
• Conduct hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, evaluations, and performance management
• Develop strategic goals for housing operations and monitor program performance using key performance indicators
• Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and recovery across housing staff
• Maintain consistent implementation of policies and procedures across all housing locations

Housing Operations

• Oversee daily operations of all recovery residences at Franklinton and Whitehall locations
• Keep homes safe, clean, fully furnished, and well maintained at all times
• Coordinate resident placements, transfers, admissions, and discharges in accordance with policy
• Monitor occupancy levels and work to maximize housing utilization
• Coordinate emergency housing situations and serve as on-call leadership as assigned
• Keep resident records accurate and current in BestNotes and applicable systems

Resident Services

• Support staff in resolving resident concerns and conflicts with empathy and clear expectations
• Review behavioral interventions and recovery plans
• Participate in treatment team meetings and collaborate with clinical, peer support, transportation, and case management teams
• Promote resident engagement in treatment and recovery programming
• Connect residents with appropriate community resources to support lasting recovery

Staff Development

• Train staff on housing policies, crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, documentation, Medicaid compliance, de-escalation, recovery-oriented practices, and safety procedures
• Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to housing staff
• Conduct regular staff meetings to support team communication and alignment

Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Maintain compliance with Ohio Recovery Housing standards, Medicaid requirements, BRC policies, Fair Housing regulations, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, OSHA, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations
• Conduct regular audits and monitor documentation quality in BestNotes (BRC's EHR)
• Investigate incidents and develop corrective improvement plans as needed
• Participate in CARF accreditation preparation and survey readiness activities as requested

Property Management

• Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and regular property inspections across all housing locations
• Monitor housekeeping standards and oversee inventory of furniture, supplies, and equipment
• Coordinate vendors and contractors and keep all properties meeting applicable safety requirements

Financial Management

• Assist in development and monitoring of housing budgets and operating expenses
• Approve purchases, track occupancy revenue, control operating costs, and recommend capital improvements

Crisis Management

• Respond to housing emergencies and assist with behavioral crises
• Coordinate emergency removals when necessary and serve as on-call leadership as assigned
• Complete incident reviews and follow-up actions in accordance with BRC policy

Community Relations

• Build and maintain relationships with landlords, community partners, and vendors
• Represent BRC professionally in community meetings and support expansion of housing opportunities

Education and Experience

Required

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to pass a required criminal background check and Medicaid exclusion list verification
• Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered, recovery-oriented care

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
• Experience in behavioral health, recovery housing, social services, nonprofit leadership, residential programs, or property management
• CPRS, CDCA, LCDC, LISW, LPCC, or other behavioral health credential; lived experience in recovery is also valued
• Experience supervising multidisciplinary teams
• Budget and operational management experience
• NARR or Ohio Recovery Housing experience
• Familiarity with BestNotes or similar behavioral health EHR systems
• Experience with Medicaid documentation requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The Housing Director regularly works across recovery housing environments, office settings at Franklinton and Whitehall, community locations, and treatment facilities. This position requires frequent interaction with residents experiencing substance use and behavioral health challenges and the ability to respond calmly and professionally during crisis situations. Evening, weekend, and on-call availability is required as assigned.

BRC serves adults (18+) in the Columbus, Ohio area who are navigating substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and the complex social determinants that shape their recovery. Our residents include individuals who are Medicaid-eligible, justice-involved, experiencing housing instability, and facing other significant barriers to care.
