Job description

Position Summary
EZARC, Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to support quality assurance and inspection activities within our structural steel fabrication operations. The QC Inspector is responsible for inspecting fabricated products, welds, materials, dimensions, fit-up, and finished components to ensure they meet contract specifications, customer requirements, applicable codes, and EZARC quality standards.
The QC Inspector will work closely with Production, Welding, Fabrication, Shipping, and Quality Control personnel to identify quality issues, document inspection results, and ensure products are properly inspected and prepared for the next stage of production or shipment.
The ideal candidate has experience in structural steel fabrication, welding inspection, blueprint and shop drawing interpretation, dimensional inspection, and quality documentation. Knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AISC standards is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Control & Inspection
  • Perform visual inspections of fabricated structural steel components and welds to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, customer requirements, and EZARC quality standards.
  • Perform weld inspections and verify proper production fit-up prior to welding.
  • Inspect incoming materials, components, and welding consumables for compliance with required specifications.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy and fabrication tolerances using measuring tapes, calipers, gauges, squares, and other inspection equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and inspection criteria.
  • Verify weld sizes, locations, lengths, profiles, and general workmanship.
  • Monitor fabrication activities for compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and applicable fabrication standards.
  • Identify defects, discrepancies, and nonconforming work and communicate findings promptly to supervisors and production personnel.
  • Identify, document, and track items requiring correction or rework.
  • Reject, quarantine, or place products or materials on hold when they do not meet established quality requirements, in accordance with EZARC procedures.
  • Perform final inspections to verify completed products are ready for shipment.
  • Inspect finished products for damage, missing components, incorrect quantities, labeling, packaging, and other shipment-related quality issues.
  • Verify that products are properly identified and packaged according to customer and project requirements.
  • Inspecting and measuring paint thickness

Documentation & Recordkeeping
  • Document inspection results through Quality Control reports, inspection logs, checklists, and nonconformance records.
  • Record inspection data including dimensions, quantities, material grades, temperatures, weights, and other required measurements.
  • Prepare clear and accurate inspection reports documenting findings, corrective actions, repairs, and disposition of nonconforming work.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and quality-related activities.
  • Complete required packing, inspection, and shipping documentation when applicable.
  • Maintain traceability of inspected materials and fabricated components as required by project or customer specifications.
  • Communicate quality concerns and documentation requirements to the appropriate Production and Quality Control personnel.

Production & Quality Support
  • Work directly with welders, fitters, fabricators, and supervisors to identify and resolve quality concerns.
  • Provide technical assistance regarding drawings, weld details, dimensions, specifications, and fabrication requirements within the scope of the position.
  • Review fabrication work at appropriate stages to identify potential quality issues before they progress to subsequent operations.
  • Assist with weld testing and qualification activities as directed by the Quality Control Manager.
  • Coordinate with third-party inspectors and NDT personnel as directed.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of required non-destructive testing.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring quality issues and communicating opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection and work area.
  • Perform other quality control and fabrication-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience in structural steel fabrication, welding, quality control, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous welding inspection or fabrication inspection experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and welding practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and specifications.
  • Basic knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code - Steel preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of AISC standards preferred.
  • Ability to accurately use measuring tapes, calipers, gauges, squares, and other inspection tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality defects and discrepancies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately complete inspection and quality documentation.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with Production, Welding, Fabrication, Shipping, and Quality Control personnel.
  • Ability to work independently while following established inspection procedures and quality requirements.

Preferred Certifications
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) - preferred
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 - preferred
  • Other quality, welding, or inspection certifications - preferred

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand and walk throughout the fabrication shop.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work around fabricated steel components.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform detailed visual inspections for extended periods.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and identify weld characteristics and defects.
  • Ability to use inspection and measuring equipment safely and accurately.

Working Conditions
  • Primarily performed in an indoor structural steel fabrication shop environment.
  • May occasionally require work outdoors or in shipping/loading areas.
  • Regular exposure to welding operations, fabrication equipment, heat, dust, fumes, and loud noise.
  • Appropriate PPE is required, including safety glasses, safety-toe footwear, hearing protection, and other PPE as required by the work area.
  • May work around forklifts, cranes, steel components, and other heavy fabrication and material-handling equipment.

Success in This Role
A successful Quality Control Inspector consistently demonstrates attention to detail, accuracy, accountability, and sound judgment. The QC Inspector identifies quality issues before they become larger problems, maintains accurate inspection records, communicates concerns promptly, and helps ensure every EZARC product meets project specifications, customer expectations, and EZARC quality standards.
