Applied Technical Services, LLC (ATS) is a leading provider of critical testing, inspection, certification, and compliance services. Founded in 1967 and headquartered in Marietta, Georgia, ATS employs nearly 2,100 team members across more than 95 locations throughout the United States.
Our purpose is to create a safe and reliable world, and our mission is to deliver assurance through precise technical and professional services.
Position Summary
The ATS Houston office, located in Conroe, TX, is seeking a hands-on Engineering Technician to support our growing Building Access, Fall Protection, and Lightning Protection group.
This is a field-focused position for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, working outdoors, and being part of a technical team. The Engineering Technician will work alongside Project Managers, Consultants, Engineers, and other field personnel performing inspections, testing, installations, repairs, and retrofits of building access and fall protection systems on commercial buildings and industrial facilities.
Our work includes roof anchors, davits, lifelines, suspended access equipment, building maintenance units (BMUs), ladders, guardrails, and other permanent fall protection and access systems. The Houston team also performs inspections, testing, repairs, and installations associated with lightning protection systems.
This is a strong opportunity for someone with construction, mechanical, maintenance, installation, or skilled-trade experience who wants to build a long-term technical career.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Assist with inspections of fall protection, suspended access, and building access equipment.
  • Perform field testing and load testing of roof anchors, davit systems, lifelines, and related equipment.
  • Assist with installation, repair, and retrofit projects involving fall protection and suspended access systems.
  • Use hand and power tools including impact drivers, drills, hammer drills, grinders, wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, and other installation equipment.
  • Assist with drilling, anchoring, bolting, assembly, layout, and installation of equipment.
  • Support inspections, repairs, testing, and installations of lightning protection systems.
  • Work safely on rooftops, near roof edges, and at heights while utilizing appropriate fall protection equipment.
  • Assist Project Managers and field personnel with site measurements, photographs, equipment identification, and documentation of field conditions.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and help organize information required for inspection and project reports.
  • Load, unload, maintain, and organize tools, testing equipment, materials, and company vehicles.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, building engineers, property managers, and other project personnel.
  • Follow ATS safety procedures and site-specific safety requirements at all times.
  • Travel to project sites throughout the Houston area, Texas, and occasionally out of state as project needs require.
  • Perform additional field and project-related responsibilities as experience and training increase.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a college degree is not required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong hands-on experience using common hand and power tools, including impact drivers, drills, hammer drills, grinders, wrenches, sockets, torque wrenches, and similar equipment.
  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot, assemble, install, and repair equipment in the field.
  • Works well as part of a team and is comfortable working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Consultants, and other Technicians.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to jump in and help the team as project needs change.
  • Dependable and accountable - shows up on time, prepared to work, and follows through on assigned responsibilities.
  • Able to take direction while also developing the ability to work independently as experience increases.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in active construction or commercial building environments.
  • Able to work at heights and near roof edges while properly protected.
  • Ability and willingness to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow established procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and other trades.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment, testing methods, installation techniques, and industry standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Construction, inspection, commercial building maintenance, or mechanical/equipment installation experience.
  • Fall protection systems, suspended access equipment, BMUs, rope access, or other work-at-heights experience.
  • Anchor or load testing experience.
  • Welding or fabrication experience.
  • Electrical or lightning protection experience.
  • Concrete drilling and mechanical or adhesive anchoring experience.
  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) experience or training.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
