Job description

Position Overview
This Mechanical Engineer opportunity is focused on providing engineering support within a petrochemical manufacturing environment, with a strong emphasis on asset integrity, reliability, and safe operations. The Mechanical Engineer will take ownership of static and rotating equipment within an assigned production area and play a key role in improving equipment performance year on year. This Mechanical Engineer position offers broad technical scope across maintenance, reliability, operations support, and plant change activities. For candidates seeking a highly technical Mechanical Engineer role with direct operational impact, this position offers strong exposure across both fixed and rotating assets.
Role Context
This role is based within a refining and petrochemical manufacturing complex and supports production-area operations in an industrial plant setting. The working environment includes both office-based engineering activity and regular time in an operating petrochemical facility. The role involves close collaboration with operations, maintenance, inspection, process engineering, project engineering, and other engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day mechanical engineering support to operations and maintenance teams to help maintain safe and reliable unit performance.
  • Act as the first point of contact for mechanical systems within the assigned production area, covering both rotating equipment and static equipment.
  • Monitor the condition and performance of mechanical equipment through field walkthroughs, inspection activity, vibration review, oil analysis, and operating data assessment.
  • Identify, prioritise, and help resolve equipment threats and opportunities affecting reliability, integrity, and plant performance.
  • Support Management of Change activities, including technical design basis development, hazard review input, pre-startup safety review participation, and change close-out verification.
  • Drive improvements to asset care strategies using reliability-centred maintenance principles and a consistent, structured approach.
  • Review mechanical failures, investigate root causes, and develop robust corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Contribute technical input to maintenance planning, turnaround scope development, commissioning activities, and mechanical equipment execution support.
  • Prepare well-defined scopes for equipment changes and ensure alignment with applicable industry codes, standards, and engineering practices.
  • Support multi-year maintenance planning by identifying and prioritising equipment improvement opportunities that enhance reliability and asset integrity.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Essential:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, with mechanical engineering strongly preferred.
  • Essential:
Minimum five years of experience in a related manufacturing industry.
  • Essential:
Proven experience with maintenance and reliability concepts, including engineering and maintenance processes.
  • Essential:
Knowledge of risk management, reliability-centred maintenance, Management of Change, and structured problem solving.
  • Essential:
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Essential:
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and work independently with a high level of quality and attention to detail.
  • Essential:
Legal authorisation to work in the US on a full-time basis.
  • Desirable:
Prior experience supporting general-purpose static and/or rotating equipment.
  • Desirable:
Prior direct full-time experience in a refining or petrochemical manufacturing complex.
  • Desirable:
Knowledge of industry codes and standards and their application within refining and petrochemical environments.
  • Desirable:
Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification.
  • Desirable:
Ability to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
About the Company
This company is a major organisation in the petroleum sector, operating across exploration, production, industrial transformation, logistics, and marketing. This opportunity sits within a petrochemical and refining environment where engineering performance, operational reliability, and safe execution are key priorities.
