About the Organization

Aurora Mind Health Advocates is a respected community health clinic located in Newark, New Jersey, specializing in outpatient mental health services. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing space for trauma survivors, with a commitment to delivering quality care for those dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, and dissociative disorders. We use evidence-based practices to promote healing and recovery.

Work Environment

This remote position allows for flexibility while still fostering a collaborative team atmosphere. Counselors will have the resources and support needed to build effective treatment plans tailored to our diverse patient population. By leveraging telehealth technologies, you will connect with clients and deliver quality care in a manner convenient for both patients and providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct trauma-informed mental health assessments to evaluate patients' trauma histories and identify the most appropriate therapeutic approaches.
  • Design and implement individualized treatment plans that center on trauma recovery, resilience-building, and emotional well-being.
  • Provide evidence-based interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) tailored to the unique needs of each client.
  • Lead both individual and group therapy sessions aimed at helping clients process their experiences, develop coping strategies, and promote healing.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive approach to client care.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support during trauma-related emergencies, ensuring immediate and effective response to clients in distress.
  • Educate clients and their families about trauma responses and coping mechanisms, empowering them with the knowledge to navigate their healing journey.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation in line with legal and ethical standards to ensure compliance and quality care.
  • Engage in case consultations, team meetings, and continuous professional development focused on the latest advancements in trauma-informed care.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This role primarily focuses on serving individuals who have experienced trauma, including survivors of abuse, violent events, and complex interpersonal relationships. Our patients often struggle with PTSD, anxiety disorders, and other mental health challenges stemming from their traumatic experiences. By providing specialized therapy and resources, you will play a crucial role in their recovery and emotional resilience.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT in the state of New Jersey.
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-licensure experience is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of trauma-related disorders and trauma-informed treatment modalities.
  • Proficiency in delivering trauma-focused therapies and counseling interventions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating a compassionate and empathetic approach to therapy.
  • Ability to maintain composure during high-stress situations and provide effective support.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant computer applications.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Experience

Experience in working with trauma survivors is highly advantageous. Additionally, candidates who have utilized specific treatment methodologies such as EMDR or TF-CBT will be viewed favorably.
