Behavioral Health Managerโ€“ Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The Behavioral Health Manager provides direct supervision and support to behavioral health staff while ensuring the delivery of high-quality, client-centered care. This role focuses on staff development, clinical oversight, and day-to-day operations to ensure services are effective, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals.


Key ResponsibilitiesStaff Supervision & Support
  • Supervise and support behavioral health staff, including therapists, counselors, and case managers
  • Conduct regular individual and group supervision sessions
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and annual evaluations
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new employees
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment
Clinical Oversight
  • Review client assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes for quality and compliance
  • Provide guidance on complex cases and clinical decision-making
  • Ensure use of evidence-based practices in service delivery
  • Support staff in crisis intervention and risk assessment
Program Operations
  • Oversee daily workflow and staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage
  • Monitor caseloads and productivity standards
  • Support implementation of program policies and procedures
  • Assist in program development and service improvements
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure adherence to all regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards
  • Participate in audits, chart reviews, and quality improvement activities
  • Address and resolve compliance issues promptly
Collaboration & Communication
  • Act as a liaison between staff and leadership
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including medical providers and community partners
  • Communicate program updates, expectations, and organizational changes to staff
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist with reporting, documentation, and data tracking
  • Support hiring processes, including interviewing and candidate selection
  • Contribute to budget awareness and resource management
QualificationsEducation & Licensure
  • Masterโ€™s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field
  • Active licensure (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LPC, or equivalent), as required by state regulations
Experience
  • 2โ€“4+ years of clinical experience in behavioral health
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Solid understanding of clinical practices and behavioral health systems
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to support and develop staff performance

Work Environment
  • Outpatient clinic, community-based program, hospital, or similar setting
  • May include occasional evenings or on-call responsibilities

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, documentation, and computer use
  • Ability to respond to urgent or crisis situations as needed
