Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Associate Director, Medical Communications and Publications, is part of the Medical Affairs Group. This person is responsible for supporting development of a comprehensive, cross functionally aligned strategic publication plan and leading the planning, development, and publication of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and other scientific materials to ensure that all timelines are met. The Associate Director, Medical Communications and Publications also manages external agency teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of work products. This person must maintain a level of therapeutic area expertise that allows them to develop concepts and business rationale for publication projects and will also work closely with internal experts and cross-functional partners across the organization. The position reports to the Head of the Publication group at Rigel.

Salary Range: National:$160,000 to $195,000

Premium Market (SFBA/NYC/Boston Area) $180,000 to $215,000

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of strategic publication plans for Rigel products and drive the delivery of the publications included in these plans
  • Oversee development of manuscripts and conference abstracts/posters for each indication, ensuring timelines are met
  • Develop publication enhancements and content extenders, including infographics, visual abstracts, slide kits, videos, and digital assets, to maximize dissemination and impact of scientific publications
  • Ensure all assigned Rigel-sponsored publications are developed according to Rigel publication policy and good publication practice, including published guidelines (e.g., GPP2022, ICMJE, CONSORT) and ensure all required documentation has been recorded in publication tracking system (eg, PubsHub)
  • Lead collaboration with biostatistics team to identify, prioritize, and drive post-hoc analyses and data generation efforts for Medical Affairs
  • Proactively collaborate with cross-functional teams (biostatistics, clinical development, medical affairs, regulatory) and manage projects to external and internal timelines and deadlines.
  • Lead day-to-day interactions with publication agencies and participate in vendor selection activities.
  • Assist publication lead in the management of financial and contractual aspects of assigned projects, including external vendors.
  • As needed, participate in Publication Review Board (PRB) for assigned publications, ensuring medical accuracy, fair balance, and adherence to Rigel policies and good publication practice.
  • Contribute to development and evolution of publication key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate analytic reports related to publication projects
  • Contribute to medical communication strategy for key medical congresses, including content development and approval of disease- and product-related panels/materials for medical booth
  • Support development and updates to medical slide decks for content and visual appeal, as needed, under direction of head of Medical Communications.
  • Develop and expand scientific proficiency in assigned therapeutic area(s).
  • Write and contribute to abstracts, manuscripts, and other scientific works as needed.
  • QC data, check references, conduct literature searches.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a medical publications/communications role at a pharmaceutical company or at a medical communications agency. Experience within the pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
  • Advanced scientific degree (Masters, Doctorate) is preferred.
  • Hematology/Oncology experience required (Breast Cancer experience preferred)
  • Strong Knowledge of current good publication practices and guidelines and medical writing guidelines (e.g., GPP2022, ICMJE, CONSORT), CMPP certification preferred.
  • Experience in strategic publication planning and execution of publication plans.
  • Knowledge and understanding of rules and regulations impacting medical communications practices, good clinical practice, and data management.
  • Collaborative, with excellent interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently to manage several projects simultaneously and accurately track deadlines and details about numerous projects.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • May require travel up to 10% of the time to attend conferences and meetings for publication planning or execution purposes.
  • Rigel requires all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (subject to any legally required exemptions)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

The anticipated salary range for this position is National $160,000 to $195,000 and, if applicable, Premium Market (SFBA/NYC/Boston Area) $180,000 to $215,000. The actual salary offered will depend on several factors, including experience, qualifications, geographic location, internal equity, and business needs.

This position is eligible to participate in Rigel's annual bonus program and is eligible for equity incentive awards, subject to the terms of the applicable plans. This position is not commission-based.
