    Job description

    Position: Transmission Project Manager I–III

    Location: Birmingham, AL
    Duration: 2 Years

    Client: Alabama Power

    Alabama Power is seeking Transmission Project Managers at Levels I, II, and III to lead transmission line and substation capital projects from initiation through construction, commissioning, and closeout.

    The selected assignment level will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications. Proposed rates should align with the candidate’s experience and the level ultimately assigned by the hiring manager.

    Key Responsibilities

    · Manage multiple transmission line and substation projects throughout the full project lifecycle.

    · Coordinate planning, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, operations, outage planning, land, environmental, finance, and regulatory activities.

    · Lead cross-functional project teams, contractors, consultants, and vendors.

    · Maintain accountability for project safety, scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and overall performance.

    · Work with Project Controls to develop schedules, track milestones, monitor costs, and forecast project performance.

    · Identify construction and execution risks and develop mitigation plans.

    · Manage project changes, scope revisions, issues, and escalation requirements.

    · Administer contracts and coordinate project resources.

    · Prepare project reports, dashboards, financial updates, and executive-level presentations.

    · Communicate project status, risks, decisions, and priorities to leadership and stakeholders.

    · Build productive relationships with engineering, construction, operations, customers, contractors, and regulatory groups.

    · Mentor team members and promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

    · Conduct project closeout reviews and document lessons learned.

    Required Qualifications

    · 2–15 years of project-management experience, with assignment level based on qualifications.

    · Bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering program or a degree in Business, Management, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.

    · Experience managing multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.

    · Knowledge of project planning, scheduling, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and risk management.

    · Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills.

    · Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.

    · Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.

    · Ability to travel occasionally to construction sites and walk across uneven surfaces in varying weather conditions.

    Preferred Qualifications

    · Experience managing electric transmission line or substation capital projects.

    · Understanding of transmission systems, utility operations, outage coordination, permitting, land acquisition, and regulatory processes.

    · PMP certification.

    · Familiarity with Primavera scheduling software.

    · Experience with Oracle financial applications.

    · Knowledge of utility project stage-gate processes and capital-project governance.
