Job description

Responsibilities

Exercise Instruction Provide group fitness instruction on a weekly basis or as scheduled; serve as a substitute instructor if/when necessary. Greet, introduce and welcome participants. Acquaint new participants with class procedures. Deliver the class in a fun and interesting manner. Stay after class to answer questions and interact. Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down. Teach proper form and technique using positive reinforcement. Instruct clients on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific areas. Teach proper breathing techniques used during physical exertion. Instruct participants in maintaining exertion levels in order to maximize benefits from exercise routines. Assists clients, answers questions, and maintain a positive exercise experience for members and class participants. Assist with the continual development, implementation and evaluation of all group exercise programs for all constituents.

Qualifications

Ability to instruct a variety of exercise programs; strong teaching and presentation skills. Focus on customer service and strong communication skills with highly diverse population. Bi-lingual: English/Spanish preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability in fitness and exercise risk screening. Must be enthusiastic and exude a desire to motivate and help others. Demonstrated dedication to improve your level of professionalism through growth and development in the fitness industry. Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.

Minimum 1 year of prior work experience in a fitness or wellness environment. Must hold a current group exercise certification in the class hired to teach. Must hold and/or willing to obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogens.
