Job Summary/Primary Purpose: The Fitness Instructors role is to teach safe and effective multi-level fitness and/or aerobic exercise classes in aquatics and/or land formats to guests and employees, related to health, fitness and wellness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Considerately and patiently enforce Kroc Center rules to provide a safe environment for all.
  • Provide exceptional quality service, leadership and mentoring to all guests in classes - promoting a culture in which excellent customer hospitality thrives, all guests feel welcome, and events and programming are well attended.
  • Understand how to use and safely operate facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist in the development, improvement and implementation of systems that safeguard any/all facilities, supplies and equipment related to fitness programs and classes.
  • Assist in the cleaning, maintenance, and inventory management of equipment in the instruction area.
  • Keep daily maintenance records and statistics. Notify the Health & Fitness Manager of the need for significant or immediate repair of equipment and replacing supplies.
  • Assure any emergency response follows TSA policy and clear and concise documentation is completed.
  • Ensure all safety standards are met and maintain certifications performing all in service requirements.
  • Actively participate in community events and outreach in order to effectively promote utilization of the Kroc Center as assigned by management.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Previous experience in at least one area of a health & fitness field preferred.
  • Certification or education in at least one area of the fitness field required.
  • Working knowledge of general safety guidelines for group fitness required.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position. Fitness Instructor 2024 Page 2 of 2

  • Good communication skills including interpersonal skills.
  • English proficiency required; Spanish language skills helpful.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Exceptional flexibility and ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate and work within a team.
  • Attention to detail, creative problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • General computer knowledge is required to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/AED/First Aid) certification is required within the first 90 days of employment and must be maintained on a bi-yearly basis.
  • Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training as established by The Salvation Army.
  • Must have a validZumba certification.

This position requires the abilities to lead activities that require a range of low to high impact physical activity. Other physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment. This position will require the ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions: The majority of the workday will be in a what may be considered humid (pools) while other locations (gymnasium and fitness studios) may be considered moderately loud in nature.

The Pay Rate for this position is $20.00 per hour.
