*TS/SCI Clearance needed for consideration with willingness to obtain CI Polygraph* Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Senior Java Developer to support an Intelligence Community mission-critical modernization program based in Reston, VA; Washington, DC; or Annapolis Junction, MD . This position is a full-time role that will be fully onsite . In this role, you will lead enterprise application modernization efforts across a complex technology environment supporting critical government operations. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Java development, application modernization, secure software engineering, system integration, and enterprise search technologies. Key Responsibilities Application Development & Modernization * Lead technology stack upgrades and modernization initiatives for enterprise Java applications supporting intelligence and government programs. * Develop, maintain, and enhance Java- and Python-based applications and services. * Refactor and modernize legacy application code to align with current software engineering standards and best practices. * Implement secure coding methodologies in accordance with government security requirements and compliance standards. * Analyze existing systems and recommend improvements to increase performance, scalability, maintainability, and reliability. Infrastructure & Integration * Upgrade, configure, and maintain Apache Solr environments utilizing Zookeeper coordination services. * Perform Solr version upgrades, including index migration, optimization, validation, and performance tuning. * Configure, deploy, and administer applications within Apache Tomcat environments. * Design and support integrations between enterprise applications and Oracle 19c databases. * Support directory services integrations utilizing Apache Directory Studio. * Implement and maintain integrations with SAP Business Intelligence reporting frameworks. * Troubleshoot and resolve application, database, middleware, and infrastructure issues across multiple environments. * Support Windows-based VMware infrastructure hosting enterprise applications. Collaboration & Documentation * Partner with security, infrastructure, database, and business stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. * Coordinate upgrade and deployment activities while minimizing operational impact and downtime. * Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, deployment procedures, and system configurations. * Participate in code reviews and champion software development best practices. * Support testing, validation, release management, and production deployment activities. Requirements Education & Experience * 13+ years of experience in software development, systems engineering, information technology, or a related field with comparable responsibilities. * Bachelor's degree may substitute for four (4) years of experience. * Master's degree may substitute for six (6) years of experience. * Experience supporting enterprise systems within secure, highly regulated environments. Technical Qualifications * Expert-level experience developing enterprise Java applications. * Strong Python development experience. * Experience supporting applications deployed on Windows-based VMware environments. * Advanced experience with Apache Solr and Zookeeper, including: * Solr administration and clustering * Solr version upgrades * Solr index migration and optimization * Performance tuning and validation * Experience administering and deploying applications within Apache Tomcat. * Experience utilizing Apache Directory Studio and supporting directory service integrations. * Experience integrating applications with Oracle 19c and other relational databases. * Experience supporting SAP Business Intelligence reporting frameworks. * Strong understanding of secure coding practices and government compliance requirements. * Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. * Strong written and verbal communication skills.
