What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a zebrafish postdoctoral, and why are they important?
What are some common challenges faced by a zebrafish postdoctoral, and how can they be managed?
What is the difference between Zebrafish Postdoctoral vs Mouse Model Researcher?
| Aspect | Zebrafish Postdoctoral | Mouse Model Researcher |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | PhD in biology, genetics, or related field | PhD in biology, genetics, or related field |
| Work Environment | Laboratory focused on aquatic model organisms | Laboratory working with mammalian models |
| Industry Usage | Academic research, biomedical studies | Biomedical research, drug development |
| Common Search Intent | Comparing postdoctoral roles in aquatic models | Research roles involving mouse models |
The Zebrafish Postdoctoral and Mouse Model Researcher roles both require a PhD in a related field and involve laboratory research. The main difference lies in the model organism used: Zebrafish Postdoctoral positions focus on aquatic models, while Mouse Model Researchers work primarily with mammalian systems. Both roles are common in academic and biomedical research, but they target different experimental approaches and organism-specific techniques.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic research team that leverages the powerful genetics of zebrafish and the African turquoise killifish to model human cardiovascular diseases, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), and cardiac aging. Our research aims to uncover the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying these conditions and to develop innovative therapeutic strategies.
Applications are invited from candidates with a strong background in molecular biology, genetics, and/or animal models of human disease. Experience in cilia biology, cardiomyopathy, PKD, cellular senescence, and/or bioinformatics, particularly single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, is highly desirable but not required. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, intellectually curious, and strongly committed to basic biomedical research. For further information about the position or research projects, please contact Dr. Xiaolei Xu at xu.xiaolei@mayo.edu and include a current CV.
