Cafe Manager

Role Summary

The Cafe Manager is a full-time role responsible for running day-to-day cafe operations, leading a high-performing team, and delivering consistent guest experience while managing inventory, cash controls, and food-safety compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations (opening/closing, shift execution, service standards, and issue escalation).
  • Hire, train, schedule, coach, and evaluate team members; address performance and resolve conflicts.
  • Deliver excellent guest service by responding to feedback, resolving complaints, and maintaining a welcoming environment.
  • Manage inventory and ordering; maintain par levels; reduce waste and stockouts.
  • Handle cash controls and POS procedures (deposits, till counts, refunds, and daily sales reporting).
  • Monitor labor and operating expenses; support budgeting and basic P&L awareness to improve profitability.
  • Ensure cleanliness, equipment readiness, and compliance with food safety, health, and workplace-safety standards.
  • Partner with suppliers and support menu updates, promotions, and customer-retention initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in cafe, restaurant, or hospitality leadership (or equivalent operational leadership).
  • Strong people-leadership, organization, and time-management skills; able to coach teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Food Handler certification and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training required within the first 60 days of hire.
  • Working knowledge of food safety and local health standards; commitment to clean, safe operations.
  • Comfortable with POS systems, cash handling, and basic sales/expense tracking.
  • High school diploma or GED required; additional education in business or hospitality preferred.

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Fast-paced, guest-facing environment; requires standing/walking for most of the shift and occasional lifting of supplies.
  • May include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs; reports to the owner or General Manager.
