GROUP EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR
FLSA STATUS: Part-time /Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Group Exercise Instructor serves others by intentionally welcoming, connecting, and supporting them and inviting them to get involved and give back to the community. They lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group exercise classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group exercise classes, as directed by the supervisor, that align with the healthy living program goals and objectives.
  • Understands different health needs; observes and adjusts approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
  • Makes self available to all members regardless of age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, or fitness level. Share your knowledge and be a resource for sound health and fitness information.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the mission, purpose, image and core values of the Ozarks Regional YMCA is conveyed at all times
  • Asks and answers questions and displays empathy in support of helping member and program participants build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals.
  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. Ensure all injuries or incidents have been reported on an Injury Report Form.
  • Take responsibility to keep studio/exercise classroom and equipment neat and clean.
  • Maintain good attendance. Give supervisor at least two weeks' notice of schedule changes.
  • Assume total responsibility for obtaining qualified substitutes when needed and inform supervisor.
  • Allow ten minutes to prepare for class and allow five minutes after class to be available for members.
  • Arrive for assigned class well-groomed and in proper uniform.
  • Attendance at staff meetings is mandatory.
  • Products or services that are not a part of the YMCA program(s) shall not be promoted or endorsed by an employee to any member or guest whether the employee is "on the clock" or not.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • National certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) or YMCA group exercise instructor certification required.
  • Certification in area of expertise required.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
  • At least one year of experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
