Join us at the YMCA in making a positive impact on the community year round. Our programs are focused on personal growth, leadership development, and community building for all participants. As a Pre & Postnatal Yoga Instructor, you will provide instruction and leadership for programs within Exeter Area YMCA, ensuring that program participants receive a quality experience in a safe environment.

The YMCA is seeking a knowledgeable, welcoming, and compassionate Pre & Postnatal Yoga Instructor to lead safe and engaging group exercise classes for individuals during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The instructor will create an inclusive and supportive environment that promotes strength, mobility, relaxation, breathing techniques, and overall wellness while adapting movements to meet varying stages of pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

This is a part-time position. Instructors may teach one or multiple classes per week based on program needs and availability. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping participants feel supported, empowered, and connected through movement and community.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging pre and postnatal yoga classes for participants of varying fitness and experience levels. 
  • Modify poses and exercises to accommodate different stages of pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and individual participant needs. 
  • Provide instruction on proper breathing, alignment, relaxation, and body awareness techniques. 
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive class environment that encourages participant confidence and connection. 
  • Educate participants on safe movement practices and encourage participants to work within their personal comfort and ability levels. 
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes. 
  • Maintain class attendance records and communicate regularly with the  Health and Wellness Director or supervisor as needed. 
  • Ensure the studio space is properly set up prior to class and that all equipment and materials are cleaned, organized, and safely stored following each session.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow YMCA safety and emergency procedures. 
  • Build positive relationships with members and promote YMCA programs and services. 
  • Maintain current knowledge of prenatal and postnatal fitness and wellness best practices. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current nationally recognized Group Exercise or Yoga Instructor certification required. 
  • Specialized Prenatal and/or Postnatal Yoga certification or documented training strongly preferred. 
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within YMCA-required timeframe. 
  • Previous experience teaching yoga classes, preferably in a group exercise setting. 
  • Knowledge of anatomy, pregnancy-related exercise modifications, and postpartum recovery considerations. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants of all backgrounds and abilities. 
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and movements safely and effectively. 
  • Must be reliable, professional, and able to work independently. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lead and demonstrate yoga movements and exercises for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and move throughout the class environment. 
  • Ability to lift and move light fitness equipment as needed. 
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate needs.
  • Ability to respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in emergency situations.
