Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for providing cause-driven coordination and operations to the Aquatics Department. The Seasonal Aquatics Coordinator will support the aquatics department at the Red Bank YMCA location.
Estimated Seasonal Position Dates: June 15, 2026 - September 1, 2026
This position is responsible for delivering and assisting in all aspects of aquatic operations including staffing and supervision, coordinating our lifeguard team, scheduling, training, on-deck supervision, providing guard and program coverage, and troubleshooting & monitoring daily pool mechanics, logs, and procedures that adhere to all state, local, and YMCA health & safety regulations.
Scheduling flexibility is a must. The Aquatics Coordinator will need to have flexibility with operational needs that align with summer camp, weekend special events and evening swim team programs.
  • Must be mentally alert and physically capable of performing all duties required of a lifeguard and/or a swim instructor. May act as a first responder for emergencies in any part of the building.
  • Always exhibit a professional attitude, which includes wearing proper staff attire, supporting and enforcing pool rules, YMCA policies and decisions and answering member questions about YMCA programs and services.
  • Ensure that all safety requirements are maintained in the pools, on the decks, and surrounding areas. Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations, and maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and all aquatic facility/pool maintenance. Notify the Aquatic Director and/or Facility Director of any needs.
  • Create Lifeguard Schedules and assist with lifeguard and/or swim instructor coverage to ensure program delivery and maximum usage of all pools.

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • At least 3 years of Lifeguard and/or Swim Instructor experience.
  • Leadership experience in the areas of staff supervision and development, program planning and initiative, and pool deck & pump room operations.
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, Red Cross Lifeguarding, WSI or equivalent, CPO certification (or ability to acquire).
  • Ability to assist with the daily supervision of a diverse aquatic staff of lifeguards, swim instructors, and volunteers. Some prior supervision of staff preferred.
  • Demonstrate sound decision-making abilities and possess mature judgement.
  • Must be observant, safety conscious, and able to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
  • Must demonstrate qualities of a leader and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
