Job description

Overview

The YMCA of Springfield is seeking Recreational Gymnastics Coaches to lead fun, age-appropriate classes in a safe and positive environment. This role includes weekday afternoon/evening shifts, and weekend morning/afternoon shifts. The role focuses on teaching basic gymnastics skills while building confidence and coordination. The ideal candidate enjoys working with kids, brings positive energy to class, and works well as part of a team.

This role provides direct leadership,ย instruction,ย coachingย and motivation forย athletes in the gymnastics program.ย 

Schedule:

  • Recreational Gymnastics: Monday - Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings (preschool and school-age children)
  • Ninja Powerwall: Thursday evenings (school-age children)

Training provided

Responsibilities
  • Instructsย gymnasticsย lessonsย in accordance withย YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.ย 
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.ย Encouragesย parent involvement andย identifiesย potential volunteers.ย 
  • Conveys information on gymnasticsย programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.ย 
  • Maintains records asย requiredย (i.e.,ย attendance, progress reports, etc.).ย 
  • Attends staff meetings andย trainingsย as scheduled.ย 
  • Followsย all YMCA policies, rules,ย regulations,ย and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accidentย reportsย as necessary.ย 
  • Organizes and puts awayย neededย class equipment. Reports damaged equipment.ย 
  • Trains and supervises class aides as assigned.ย

  • Place members and participants as the first and highest priority showing kindness and compassion at all times.ย ย 
  • Demonstrates the Y core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through all daily activities and responsibilitiesย 

Child Abuse Policies & Prevention:ย The YMCA enforces policies to prevent child abuse. Allegations or suspicions are taken seriously and reported to authorities. Procedures include unscheduled visits, open doors for parents, and a code of conduct for staff. We screen carefully to prevent abusers from being hired and provide child abuse prevention training to staff. Employees whoย fail toย support these policies will be subject to discipline, up to termination.ย 

Qualifications

All Levels:ย 

  • Recreation Certification if over 18 years of ageย 
  • Complete andย maintainย Safe Sport certificationย 
  • Must be able toย demonstrateย gymnasticsย instructor skillsย in accordance withย YMCA standards.ย 
  • YMCA gymnasticsย certification, or equivalentย preferred.ย 
  • At least 16 years of age.ย 
  • Have leadership competencies in the identified key areasย 
  • Ability to learn quickly.ย 
  • Ability to work with integrity, discretion, and a professional approach.ย 
  • Prefer knowledge of, andย previousย experienceย with,ย diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).ย 
  • Ability to complete all required trainings withinย 60 daysย of employment, including but not limited to CPR, first aid, Living Our Cause, DCFS Mandated Report, IL Gateway Registry Modules and toย maintainย these certifications as current as outlined by regulations or requirements
