Job description

Position Title: Yard Spotter Driver/Facility Maintenance Technician I
Reporting To: EHS Supervisor
Location: Evansville, IN
Status: Non-Exempt
Job Purpose: This is a hybrid position. Performs basic and routine facilities maintenance, construction, and repair tasks according to service, quality, and safety standards. Following standard operating procedures, installs, inspects, repairs, and performs general preventative maintenance to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management systems. Assists with miscellaneous facility projects, including painting, drywall, carpentry, installation of fixtures, and moving furniture or materials within the facility. Utilizes a work order system to log activities as required. Works with or assists trades contractors to complete projects or complex repairs. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
In addition to facility maintenance duties, this position operates a yard spotter tractor to move trailers and containers between staging areas and receiving/shipping doors as needed. Driving/spotting duties are expected to occupy approximately one-third of scheduled work time, with the remainder spent supporting facility maintenance operations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Perform routine Maintenance tasks such as:
    • Changing light bulbs and ballasts
    • Replacing batteries in sensor-operated toilets and sinks
    • Checking and topping off oil levels in air compressors
    • Minor repairs to doors, handles and warehouse equipment
  • Good mechanical aptitude to diagnose problems
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs to identify and report maintenance issues
    • Able to advise leadership on what can be done in-house vs. outsourced
  • Experienced operator of MHE (material handling equipment) and other equipment, including yard spotter tractor
  • Respond to general maintenance requests from leadership and warehouse staff
  • Ability to work with all types of individuals
  • Assist with seasonal prep (e.g., fans, heaters, minor weatherproofing)
  • Escort and support outside vendors or contractors when specialized repairs are needed
  • Ensure workspace is free of debris and remove safety hazards
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Manage time effectively
Driving amp; Spotter Duties
  • Safely operate a yard spotter tractor to move trailers and containers between the yard, staging areas, and receiving/shipping doors
  • Queue and stage trailers/containers efficiently to keep receiving and shipping teams supplied with product, without requiring immediate door assignment upon arrival
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with DOT requirements
  • Set/release brakes, and chock wheels as required for safe spotting operations
  • Maintain accurate records of moves performed, consistent with company work order/logging procedures, and C-TPAT
  • Report any mechanical issues with the spotter tractor promptly to support preventive maintenance
  • Prioritize and balance driving/spotting duties with facility maintenance assignments based on daily operational needs
Qualifications amp; Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement, required
  • Must meet and maintain DOT qualification requirements, including a current DOT medical certification (physical)
  • Acceptable driving record (Motor Vehicle Record) per company policy
  • Subject to DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing program (pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion)
  • Prior experience operating a yard spotter/terminal tractor preferred; will train qualified candidates
  • Forklift certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification through company training upon hire
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and general mechanical aptitude
  • Dependable, with a strong work ethic and team-first attitude
