Job description

Position Profile

This position is responsible for loading and off-loading trailers, trucks and other vehicles using forklifts and other material handling equipment and preparing freight for over the road (OTR) and over the water (OTW) shipment.

Essential Duties

•    Operate safely and compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures

•    Check and complete all load-related documentation to ensure that it is accurate

•    Move freight, stock, and other materials to and from storage and production areas, loading docks, deliver vehicles and containers, by hand, or using forklifts, hostlers, and other heavy equipment to position for receiving       and loading

•    Complete thorough yard cleanup, stacking dunnage in dunnage racks, picking up pallets and garbage, etc.

•    Sort and inspect freight for damage and inconsistencies prior to loading and unloading, ensuring freight is labeled and counted

•    Plan loads, tie down and secure loads on flatbeds, flat racks, bulkers, and rail cars in accordance with DOT regulations and Carlile policies and procedures for OTR and OTW transport

•    Ensure trailers are organized and accounted for throughout the yard

•    Ensure that freight/cargo is secured for transport according to the FMCSRs and hazardous materials regulations

•    May scale loads

•    May assist with off-site projects

•    Tacoma - Use handheld scanners to load freight and take trip photos 

•    Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

•    High school diploma or GED equivalent

•    One to two years yard operations experience preferred

•    Forklift experience preferred

•    Alaska - Heavy equipment experience, preferred

•    Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills

•    Works well with internal departments, drivers and outside carriers

•    Follows instructions, responds to management direction, takes responsibility for own actions, completes tasks on time or communicates alternate plans

•    Ability to prioritize work throughout the day

•    Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy

•    Knowledge of DOT regulations and Carlile Policies and procedure for OTW and OTR transport

•    Must become forklift certified 

•    Intermediate math skills
