The two-year fellowship program is tailored to the administrative fellows' specific interests, as well as to organizational initiatives, during their tenure at the hospital. Fellows will also gain valuable mentorship and professional development opportunities from WVU Medicine's senior executives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Recent (past 2 years) or upcoming (within 1 year) graduate of an accredited Master of Health Administration (MHA), Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Healthcare Management emphasis, or similar professional graduate program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Graduate of a CAHME-accredited program.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. During the first 18 months, fellows will focus on project-based work in different areas of the organization. The final six months will be spent in line management experience in a preferred department.
Key areas of focus in the first 18 months may include (but are not limited to):
• Hospital operations, inpatient and ambulatory
• Continuous improvement and innovation
• Strategic planning
• Financial management
• Patient safety
• Information technology
• Regulatory compliance
• Physician partnership
• Insurance/payer side
• Physician Management
  • Facilities Management
  • Community Outreach
  • Rural healthcare management

2. Components:
• Adoption of program goals and objectives, including periodic review with the CEO
• Open access to the CEO and the entire management staff
• Participation in senior management meetings, where direction, policy, and strategic planning issues are addressed for the hospital and WVU Medicine
• Participation in central corporate functions (e.g. finance and general operations)
• Participation in the completion of special projects/programs central to the hospital and WVU Medicine (e.g. Joint Commission preparation, budget development, clinical program analysis, etc.)
• Assumption of a partial role as the service representative for the Office of the CEO
• Participation in the educational process within the WVU Master of Health Administration program
3. Fellowship Goals and Objectives:
The primary objectives of the Administrative Fellowship Program are to:
• Support fellows in developing a comprehensive understanding of hospital operations
• Prepare fellows to assume a contributing role on a healthcare management team
• Provide fellows an opportunity to enhance important managerial competencies such as customer service, financial stewardship, operations management, change management and performance management
• Primary focus on the fellow's assimilation of knowledge, development of attitude and philosophy toward the field, and further refinement of a management style
• Intention of broadening the range of post-fellowship employment opportunities by providing exposure to various corporate activities of WVU Medicine
• Commitment of the entire WVU Medicine team to integrate and retain high quality fellows within the organization post-fellowship
