What is a WTW consultant?

WTW Consultants are professionals who work for Willis Towers Watson (WTW), a global advisory, broking, and solutions company. They provide expert advice and services in areas such as risk management, employee benefits, retirement, insurance, and human resources. WTW Consultants help organizations manage financial risks, optimize employee programs, and improve overall business performance through data-driven strategies and tailored solutions. Their work often involves analyzing complex data, designing benefit plans, and recommending best practices to meet clients' strategic goals.

How does a WTW consultant typically collaborate with clients and internal teams during a project?

WTW Consultants work closely with clients to understand their business needs, gather data, and develop tailored solutions—often in areas such as benefits, risk management, or talent strategy. Throughout a project, consultants coordinate with internal specialists, analysts, and project managers to leverage diverse expertise and ensure high-quality deliverables. Regular client meetings, workshops, and presentations are a common part of the workflow, making strong communication and teamwork skills essential. This collaborative environment helps consultants gain exposure to various industries and build valuable relationships both within and outside the firm.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a WTW consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a WTW Consultant, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of employee benefits or risk management, and typically a relevant degree such as in business, finance, or actuarial science. Familiarity with data analysis tools (like Excel, actuarial software, or HRIS systems) and professional certifications (such as CFA or actuarial credentials) are often required. Excellent communication, client management, and problem-solving abilities make consultants stand out in this client-focused role. These skills and qualifications are vital to deliver strategic advice, manage complex client projects, and build trusted relationships with clients.
