Job Description Litigation Legal Assistant North Toronto Easily accessible by Subway/TTC and Highway 401 Our client, a well established law firm located in the Yonge/Sheppard area is in need of a Legal Assistant to join its team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, team oriented law firm. This is a new role because of growth.

Under the supervision of the Office Manager, this position is responsible for performing clerical, administrative and general office duties for two associates. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist Associates with management of their files, which includes: Proactively and independently preparing documents to meet upcoming deadlines. Complexity of documents varies, but general instructions will be provided and precedents are to be followed Transcribes dictation of technical and/or confidential nature Organizes and expedites the flow of work through the lawyer's office, initiating follow-up action Compose routine letters and memos from general instruction Routes or answers routine correspondence not requiring the lawyer's attention and initiates follow-up action, as required Organize and maintain office files/records in accordance with firm's procedures and best practices Maintain Amicus Attorney calendar, ensures lawyer is kept abreast of upcoming appointments/meetings/court filings/court proceeding dates Proper filing of emails received for lawyer Handle administrative detail with respect to accounting, opening and closing files, docketing, billing, etc., as specifically directed by lawyer Prepares special reports which involves gathering and summarizing data Liaises between the principal and various internal and external individuals, groups and clients at all levels Abide by Firm policies including the policy on confidentiality REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience: College diploma in legal assistant studies; plus a minimum of 2 years' experience as a legal assistant working within Insurance Defence Litigation

Core Competencies: Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and up-to-date with recent changes Proficiency with computers including MS Office 365, E-Copy, Amicus Attorney, PCLaw etc. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Organized and meticulous with follow-up and attention to detail Time management skills with the ability to work under pressure in order to meet multiple deadlines Ability to work independently, be proactive and show initiative Flexible team player who is client service oriented Thorough understanding of litigation legal documentation Apply today.
