Job description

Writing Center Tutor
Position Summary: Writing Center tutors meet with OC students for one-on-one consultations, either in person or online, to provide informed writing advice. Tutors serve as representatives of the Writer’s Block and of effective writing on campus.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one writing support to students in a welcoming and encouraging environment.
  • Assist students at all stages of the writing process, including brainstorming, organization, drafting, revision, and citation.
  • Maintain regular tutoring hours and communicate professionally with students before and after tutoring sessions.
  • Participate in required tutor training, professional development meetings, and Writing Center activities.
  • Collaborate with the Writing Center Director and Student Director to support Writing Center initiatives and promote available services.
  • Help increase student awareness of the Writing Center through classroom visits, campus outreach, and other promotional efforts.
  • Establish and work toward professional development goals each semester.
  • Complete required documentation, evaluations, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Participate in special Writing Center events and programs, including workshops and campus writing initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to supporting student success.
  • Successful completion of a grammar proficiency assessment.
  • Active member of a local church and aligned with OC’s Christian mission
