What is a writer storyteller?

Writer Storytellers are creative professionals who craft narratives, whether fictional or factual, to engage, inform, or entertain audiences. They use language, structure, and literary techniques to develop characters, plots, and settings across various mediums such as books, articles, scripts, or digital content. Their work often involves research, imagination, and revision to produce compelling stories that resonate with readers or viewers. Writer Storytellers may specialize in genres like fiction, non-fiction, journalism, or screenwriting, and they play a crucial role in shaping culture and communication.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a writer storyteller?

To thrive as a Writer Storyteller, you need excellent writing, grammar, and storytelling abilities, often supported by a background in English, creative writing, or communications. Familiarity with word processing software, content management systems, and sometimes creative writing workshops or certifications is beneficial. These skills ensure that stories resonate with audiences, meet project goals, and stand out in a competitive market.

How do writer storytellers typically collaborate with editors and other creative professionals during the development of a project?

Writer Storytellers often work closely with editors, illustrators, and sometimes marketing teams throughout the creative process. Regular feedback sessions with editors help refine narrative structure and ensure clarity, while collaboration with illustrators or designers ensures the story aligns visually with the intended audience. Open communication and adaptability are key, as revisions are common and input from multiple stakeholders can shape the final product. This teamwork not only enhances the quality of the work but also provides valuable professional growth and networking opportunities.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Narrative Writer/Story Teller based in Netherlands.

This is a remote, part-time opportunity for a talented writer who knows how to turn real conversations into memorable, authentic stories. You will interview business owners and their clients, uncover the experiences and motivations behind their work, and transform those conversations into compelling personal narratives. Your writing will also support professional branding through polished resumes and carefully edited documents. The role combines interviewing, storytelling, copywriting, and meticulous proofreading in a highly people-focused environment. You will need to capture each person's authentic voice while adapting your writing style across personal and professional formats. With flexible hours and the potential to grow into a larger role, this position is ideal for a writer who values both creativity and precision.

Accountabilities
  • Conduct friendly, structured video interviews with business partners and their clients to uncover their backgrounds, motivations, experiences, values, and personal stories.
  • Transform interview conversations into polished, engaging personal story letters that feel authentic to the individual rather than generic or templated.
  • Write and refine professional resumes based on information gathered during interviews, presenting each person's experience and strengths clearly and effectively.
  • Proofread a consistent volume of documents for grammar, spelling, clarity, consistency, tone, and overall quality.
  • Adapt writing style and voice according to the purpose of each document, moving comfortably between warm, personal storytelling and professional resume writing.
  • Maintain consistency with each partner's personal and professional brand voice across all written materials.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to understand project requirements, remain on schedule, and deliver work that meets expectations.
  • Identify missing information, inconsistencies, or opportunities to strengthen a story and follow up when additional context is needed.
  • Manage multiple assignments efficiently while maintaining a high standard of writing quality and attention to detail.
Requirements
  • Excellent written English with a strong command of grammar, spelling, structure, tone, and style.
  • Demonstrated experience in narrative writing, storytelling, copywriting, biography writing, journalism, content writing, or a closely related field.
  • Strong interviewing and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create a comfortable conversation and draw out meaningful details rather than simply following a list of questions.
  • Ability to translate spoken conversations into engaging written narratives while preserving the individual's authentic voice and personality.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to identify grammatical errors, typos, inconsistencies, awkward phrasing, and tone issues.
  • Ability to adapt writing style between personal storytelling, professional resumes, and other business communications.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Reliable internet connection and access to a quiet, professional environment suitable for video interviews.
  • A portfolio or relevant writing samples demonstrating strong storytelling and writing ability is highly desirable.
  • Experience writing resumes is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with real estate, entrepreneurship, or small businesses is helpful but not required, as relevant industry knowledge can be learned on the job.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback, revising drafts, and continuously improving written work.
Benefits
  • Fully remote working arrangement.
  • Flexible part-time schedule of approximately 5-10 hours per week.
  • Paid per completed project rather than by the hour, allowing efficient writers to increase their effective hourly earnings.
  • Flat project rates based on the expected time required at a standard hourly rate.
  • Opportunity to increase hours and responsibilities as performance and reliability are demonstrated.
  • Supportive team environment with direct feedback on submitted work.
  • Opportunity to work on meaningful personal stories and professional branding materials for entrepreneurs and business professionals.
  • 30-day probation period with reduced project rates during the initial evaluation period, followed by full project rates once the probation period is successfully completed.
