Job description

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Grant Writer is an exempt position responsible for developing and writing grant proposals; prospecting for and analyzing new funding sources; supporting grant reporting, funder compliance, and post-award grant management processes; and assisting with other fund development efforts.

  • Research, identify, evaluate, and recommend public, private, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities that align with organizational priorities, programs, and strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate the development, writing, editing, and submission of high-quality grant proposals, applications, letters of inquiry, and contract responses in compliance with funder requirements and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with program, finance, quality improvement, and leadership staff to develop project plans, goals, objectives, evaluation measures, budgets, and supporting documentation for funding requests.
  • Analyze funding opportunity guidelines, determine organizational eligibility and competitiveness, and communicate requirements and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain a comprehensive grants calendar and grants management system tools to track funding opportunities, proposal submissions, reporting requirements, deadlines, awards, and outcomes.
  • Support post-award activities by monitoring reporting schedules, assisting with programmatic reports, coordinating required submissions, and ensuring compliance with funder expectations.
  • Provide technical assistance to program and finance staff regarding funding requirements, compliance expectations, grant readiness, and proposal development processes.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with funders, community partners, and internal stakeholders to strengthen funding opportunities and support organizational objectives.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and ethical use of organizational data, budgets, and program information throughout the grant development process.
  • Participate in grant planning, kickoff meetings, debriefings, and continuous improvement efforts to strengthen organizational grant-seeking capacity and funding success.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in a related field, or three (3) or more years of successful professional experience in writing and/or managing grants.
  • Previous successful experience in writing or managing grants.
  • Grant Professional Certified (GPS), or Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS), preferred.
  • Excellent grant writing, editing, proofreading, and business communication skills.
  • Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex funding guidelines and contractual requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, competing deadlines, and priorities with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across program, finance, compliance, and leadership teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, grant management systems, online funder portals, and cloud-based collaboration tools.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local, corporate, and foundation funding sources and grant-making practices
  • Knowledge of grant research methods, funding databases, and prospect identification strategies.
  • Knowledge of grant application development, proposal structure, budgets, logic models, outcomes measurement, and evaluation principles.
  • Knowledge of grant compliance requirements, reporting expectations, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), and post-award grant management practices.
  • Ability to lift or carry supplies, files, etc., up to 25 lbs. when required.
