Job description

The USGA is a mission-based golf organization whose purpose is to unify the golf community through handicapping and grassroots programs; to showcase the game's best talent through the U.S. Open, U.S. Women's Open and 13 other national championships and our museum; to provide unbiased global governance with The R&A through the playing, equipment and Amateur Status rules; and to advance issues important to golf's future, with a focus on driving sustainability, accessibility and inclusion. As the first point of contact for those arriving for guided tours at the USGA Experience and World Golf Hall of Fame, the Volunteer Docent is a brand representative responsible for creating a welcoming environment and providing excellent customer service. The Volunteer Docent, USGA Experience and World Golf Hall of Fame is an unpaid volunteer, part-time opportunity at the USGA Experience and World Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The schedule for this role varies and can include shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and as needed for evening and weekend events. The average weekly number of hours for this role is 3 - 6.
Volunteer Docents will support general visitor services, provide guided tours of the building including the first-floor galleries (USGA Experience) and second floor World Golf Hall of Fame. Volunteer Docents should enjoy working with people, present themselves in a pleasant and professional manner, and have flexibility to adjust schedules with the other Volunteer Docents if necessary. You will share this opportunity with three other Volunteer Docents and work closely with Welcome Ambassadors to ensure the best possible visitor experience.
What you'll do:
  • Warmly greet and accommodate visitors and ensure they feel welcomed, and their presence valued. Accurately and thoughtfully respond to visitor questions in a professional, knowledgeable, and informative manner.
  • Provide guided tours of the permanent and rotating exhibits at the USGA Experience and World Golf Hall of Fame.
  • Provide support for on-site events including large-scale meetings/symposiums, conferences, events, etc. Support for activities includes registering, credentialing, and directing visitors to event locations.
