POSITION SUMMARY:

The AMA YMCA is seeking a focused, safety-conscious, and energetic Archery Instructor to lead our 6-week recreational youth archery program for participants ages 5 years and older. This class introduces youth to the fundamentals of archery while promoting discipline, patience, and self-confidence in a supportive, structured environment.


We're looking for an instructor who can provide a fun and educational experience while ensuring all participants learn proper form, equipment use, and safety practices. Whether students are picking up a bow for the first time or looking to improve their aim, your guidance will help them grow with every arrow.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Lead structured 6-week archery classes with a focus on beginner skill development.
  2. Instruct youth on proper archery technique, including stance, draw, aim, and release.
  3. Ensure a strong emphasis on safety protocols at all times, including range setup, supervision, and equipment checks.
  4. Create a fun, respectful, and confidence-building environment for all participants.
  5. Modify instruction based on student age and experience to ensure skill progression.
  6. Communicate clearly with parents and guardians regarding safety, progress, and expectations.
  7. Promote YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all interactions.
  8. Maintain archery equipment and range to ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the youth program.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Prior experience in archery (instruction, competition, or certification) preferred.
  • Must have a strong focus on safety and risk management.
  • Experience working with children in a coaching, education, or recreational setting.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to plan and lead fun, educational archery sessions for all ability levels.
  • Reliable, organized, and passionate about youth development.
  • Available to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; USA Archery or equivalent certification a plus.
