Job Description:
The Public Works Street Division is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Flare Technician II to support traffic control and roadway safety operations throughout the city. This position plays an important role in maintaining safe travel conditions for residents, motorists, and work crews by ensuring proper placement and maintenance of barricades, road plates, and temporary traffic control devices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect barricades and other traffic control devices throughout the city for proper placement and condition.
  • Track, document, and maintain logs for barricades and road plates.
  • Construct, repair, and maintain Type I and Type III barricades.
  • Set up and remove temporary traffic control devices for roadway projects and emergencies.
  • Respond to emergency and after-hours service calls and communicate updates to management.
  • Remove debris from roadways and public right-of-way areas.
  • Assist with winter weather operations, including snow and ice response activities.
  • Operate and maintain powered hand tools, including chainsaws, weed-eaters, and leaf blowers.
  • Complete and submit daily log sheets and related documentation.
  • Utilize basic computer skills for tracking, reporting, and communication purposes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. Must possess a valid Driver's License and automobile insurance; CDL preferred at the time of application or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire. Knowledge of traffic control and roadway safety practices preferred. Ability to safely operate powered hand tools and equipment. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work. Strong communication and organizational skills. Willingness to work nights, weekends, overtime, and respond to emergency calls as needed.
Salary Range:
$25.72/hr.
