The Design Engineer for Public Works serves on project teams, performing engineering tasks under the general direction of the Project Engineer.

Essential Functions

  • Executes the key elements of the project design process and prepares documents per client requirements
  • Performs projects in compliance with established work plan and schedule
  • Designs portions of a project under supervision
  • Researches catalogs for commercially available equipment to avoid expense of original design
  • Specifies equipment based on catalog searches
  • Researches code requirements in out-of-town project sites
  • Prepares environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential issues, takes steps to determine solutions, and implements selected steps

Experience

  • 0+ years’ experience 
  • Knowledge of software and CAD operations
  • Previous leadership experience is a plus
  • Previous internships a plus

Skills

  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and in person)
  • Self-starter and able to articulate ideas and needs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to learn new software quickly
  • Able to come up with solutions to problems and be resourceful
  • Proven ability to take initiative and implement processes
  • Ability to travel and drive personal vehicle including at night
  • Physical working requirements:
    • Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
    • Able to walk up/down stairs
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
    • Subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally

Education

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering at an ABET-accredited school 
  • Intent to pursue F.E and P.E. license following graduation
